The octavo volume contains proposals (twenty in number) for a history of Chelmsford by Wilkes Allen (1775-1816), who was Pastor of the First Church of Chelmsford from 1803 to 1832. The history was to include account of the town's settlement, a history of the church and its pastors, etc. Also included is a list of subscribers to the history, which was published in Haverhill in 1820 under the title The History of Chelmsford from Its Origin 1653, to the Year 1820.
