Let’S Dance . . . It’S My Birthday!
Its my birthday. Many people like to dance when they are celebrating their birthdays. I am from Guyana, and every time I have a party for my birthday, I like to dance with my friends. It is quite a fulfilling experience to move my body to the music beats and to the sounds of the African drums. I am always very excited and motivated when I hear music from the Caribbean and around the world. I like the happiness that dancing generates. I get to relieve myself of stress and nervous tension. I like the exercise and the burning up of calories as I dance around and sing the songs about love. I find this very exhilarating and liberating.

Ms Cheryl Ainsworth Martin is a public school educator. She teaches in the day, and she writes at night. Her parents were both principals and all nine of her siblings were teachers. She likes to celebrate birthdays in different ways. She believes that everyone is interested in their own birthdays, especially young children. She believes that family rituals can be a great source of fostering cultural traditions and family values. Ms Ainsworth Martin was born in Guyana and she currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. She is the mother of Shari, Nicole and Vanessa Marie Martin. She is also the grandmother of Troy, Trent and Triniti. She believes that everyone should make education their number one priority.
