This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the RECOMB 2004 Satellite Workshop on Regulatory Genomics, RRG 2004, held in San Diego, CA, USA in March 2004. The 10 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and improved for inclusion in the book. The papers address a broad variety of aspects of regulatory genomics including classification, functional module detection, proteonomics, sampling, kernel methods, TF binding motifs, gene expression data analysis, regulatory network model learning, RNA regulatory sequence motifs, DNA regulatory sequence motifs, parameter landscape analysis, and biological network regulation.

Algorithms in Bioinformatics
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Workshop on Algorithms in Bioinformatics, WABI 2004, held in Bergen, Norway, in September 2004. The 39 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 117 submissions. Among the topics addressed are all current issues of algorithms in bioinformatics, such as exact and approximate algorithms for genomics, genetics, sequence analysis, gene and signal recognition, alignment, molecular evolution, phylogenetics, structure determination or prediction, gene expression and gene networks, proteomics, functional genomics, and drug design.

Pristionchus pacificus
This edited volume on the nematode model Pristionchus pacificus describes an integrative approach to evolutionary biology. It aims for a merger of evolutionary and comparative biology with mechanistic approaches based on genetics and molecular biology. Insight into the function of biological systems obtained from laboratory studies when complemented with ecology, natural variation and natural history of an organism, can provide detailed knowledge of the proximate and ultimate causations of species. Ralf J. Sommer developed P. pacificus as model system for integrative evolutionary biology with case studies in evo-devo and population genetics on La Réunion Island. Similarly, ecological interactions with scarab beetles revealed examples for the evolution of novelty at the morphological and behavioural level and their underlying molecular mechanisms. Everyday Life in the German Book Trade
In his popular book The Germans (1982), Stanford historian Gordon Craig remarked: "When German intellectuals at the end of the eighteenth century talked of living in a Frederican age, they were sometimes referring not to the monarch in Sans Souci, but to his namesake, the Berlin bookseller Friedrich Nicolai." Such was the importance attributed to Nicolai’s role in the intellectual life of his age by his own contemporaries. While long neglected by students of the period, who tended to accept the caricature of him as a philistine who failed to recognize Goethe’s genius, Nicolai has experienced a resurgence of interest among scholars reexploring the German Enlightenment and the literary marketplace of the eighteenth century. This book, drawing upon Nicolai’s large unpublished correspondence, rounds out the picture we have of Nicolai already as author and critic by focusing on his roles as bookseller and publisher and as an Aufkärer in the book trade.
