[Re]Gained in Translation II
Times are changing, and with them, the norms and notions of correctness. Despite a wide-spread belief that the Bible, as a “sacred original,” only allows one translation, if any, new translations are constantly produced and published for all kinds of audiences and purposes. The various paradigms marked by the theological, political, and historical correctness of the time, group, and identity and bound to certain ethics and axiomatic norms are reflected in almost every current translation project. Like its predecessor, the current volume brings together scholars working at the intersection of Translation Studies, Bible Studies, and Theology, all of which share a special point of interest concerning the status of the Scriptures as texts fundamentally based on the act of translation and its recurring character. It aims to breathe new life into Bible translation studies, unlock new perspectives and vistas of the field, and present a bigger picture of how Bible [re]translation works in society today.
How Parables Work
ABOUT THIS BOOK A comparison puts two things together, revealing similarities. In a parable, these two are from different areas of life. One is of everyday, and leads to a Verdict all can readily agree. The second, summed up in a Judgment, puts forward a moral claim, and is debateable. But if you agreed to the Verdict you might well feel you ought to accept the Judgment as well - especially if neighbours are listening! This book reviews all the gospel parables, showing how they fit this pattern. It also considers various placings and groupings, endings and pegs which come with them in the gospels; and wonders why so many have come down to us Judgment-free. Any reader who uses arguments can make out where a parable is going, and why its Verdict was agreed, and whether that let them in for the Judgment too. But where no Judgment was given, there the guessing must begin.
Thematic Threads in the Book of the Twelve
For some years the view has become established that the Book of the Twelve is a systematically structured literary unity. An exegesis which takes the final canonical text seriously undertakes to understand the structure and theological intention of this unity. The papers collected here attempt to reveal significant structures which overarch the individual components. Particular emphasis is placed on the reconstruction of thematic threads which are created when individual prophets take up topics from their predecessors (e.g. Jehovah's Day, conversion, role of the peoples) and intensify them. The papers were written between 1999 and 2002 under the aegis of the Society of Biblical Literature's Working Group on The Formation of the Book of the Twelve.

Radical Philosophy of Life
The Sermon on the Mount never ceases to challenge readers in every generation. New methods and new insights into new surroundings have to be applied to the most influential speech ever given.
