Partial Differential Equations in China
In the past few years there has been a fruitful exchange of expertise on the subject of partial differential equations (PDEs) between mathematicians from the People's Republic of China and the rest of the world. The goal of this collection of papers is to summarize and introduce the historical progress of the development of PDEs in China from the 1950s to the 1980s. The results presented here were mainly published before the 1980s, but, having been printed in the Chinese language, have not reached the wider audience they deserve. Topics covered include, among others, nonlinear hyperbolic equations, nonlinear elliptic equations, nonlinear parabolic equations, mixed equations, free boundary problems, minimal surfaces in Riemannian manifolds, microlocal analysis and solitons. Buku ini merupakan kumpulan 160 esai pendek Goenawan Mohamad yang pernah dimuat majalah Tempo dari Januari 1986 sampai Februari 1990. Diawali dengan esai berjudul “Ding” (4 Januari 1986) sampai yang terakhir “Asongan” (24 Februari 1990). Esai-esai yang dikenal sebagai Catatan Pinggir itu berbicara beragam hal, bahkan hampir semua hal yang dekat dengan peristiwa di masyarakat dalam kurun waktu empat tahun itu: tentang kecemasan, kebebasan, kekuasaan, kemerdekaan, keserakahan, kebahagiaan, demokrasi. Mengenai topik yang disebut terakhir, William Liddle, dalam Kata Pengantar untuk buku ini, mengatakan kiranya jelas bahwa Goenawan sangat menyakini demokrasi sebagai jenis pemerintahan yang terbaik bagi negara kebangsaan Dunia Ketiga seperti Indonesia. The Tale of Chun Hyang
The legendary story of the daughter of a kisaeng, Korean singer/entertainer, and Li Mong Ryong, the son of a local lord. Chun Hyang is the most beloved tale of love in Korea, the subject of that nation's first-ever talking film (remade more than a dozen times to date.) The pair's separation, her subsequent torture by a corrupt minister, and their eventual reuniting, were first remembered in pansori, a Korean version of Peking Opera, before the tale was written down by Shin Jae-hyo centuries later.
Several Complex Variables in China
Today, there is increasing interest in complex geometry, geometric function theory, and integral representation theory of several complex variables. The present collection of survey and research articles comprises a current overview of research in several complex variables in China. Among the topics covered are singular integrals, function spaces, differential operators, and factorization of meromorphic functions in several complex variables via analytic or geometric methods. Some results are reported in English for the first time.
