Serpentine Walls

Reeling from the news that his parents are divorcing, Pete Morgan starts his junior year at college cynical about love and commitment. Although his new openness to one-night stands does wonders for his sex life, fighting his romantic nature proves harder than he’d anticipated. He soon finds himself pining for a glamorous senior, Aidan, who doesn’t mind taking Pete to bed but shows no interest in commitment -- at least not with Pete. And Pete’s attempt at a friends-with-benefits relationship with sophomore Jed leaves Pete feeling empty. One bright spot in Pete’s year is Matthew, an easygoing graduate student who assists Pete in making his first film. Matthew has some baggage too, and has sworn off relationships and sex altogether, so Pete feels safe to enjoy their friendship. But he falls for Matthew anyway, not able to fight his growing conviction that Matthew is the perfect guy for him. Even if Pete can accept he made a mistake when he turned his back on relationships, that doesn't mean Matthew will feel the same. With a few life lessons under his belt, Pete’s ready to take a chance on love and bare his heart to Matthew. But will Matthew be willing to let Pete in?

Everything, Briefly

"As a man thinks, so is he." Personally, and socially, so is he. Yet if this is true, then "as a man thinks" has led us into the thick of global crisis. What exactly is it, about our thinking, that fails us? What has gone so wrong? There are firm reasons why we may hope for new direction. Firstly, we have a new view of the connectedness of all things. Never before has this encompassed so much. It makes a crucial difference to philosophy. Secondly, when we recast philosophy's high-level concepts in more concrete terms, it becomes possible to discuss them without confusion. This is the method of this book. There is much of interest for the theologian, too. Legendary film director Ingmar Bergman once wrote, "What will happen to us who want to believe, but can not?" His "can not" had to do with what Professor Karen Barad calls the "hegemony of physics". Everything, Briefly details why it is impossible, in fact, to believe in a closed universe of cause and effect.

Philip Darnall (b.1604) married Mary Calvert (d.1692), and was active in British politics and diplomacy as secretary to Sir George Calvert (Sir George was later knighted Lord Baltimore). In 1664 Philip received a land grant in Maryland, and after his death, his widow and two sons (Henry and John) immigrated there (the two sons were friends of Lord Baltimore's heir). John Darnell (d.1700) and his family, Quakers, immigrated from England to Burlington County, New Jersey (he died at sea). Richard Darnell was imported from England to St. Mary's County, Maryland as an indentured servant before 1674. Edward Darnall (1671-1754) was imported from England to Charles County, Maryland as an indentured servant in 1688. He married Sarah Robey before 1714. Descendants and relatives of these four immigrants (but chiefly progeny of Edward) lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Texas, California and elsewhere.
