Jan Gerretsen (ca. 1640-1717) was born in Holland. He immigrated to America prior to 1662 and settled in Ulster County, New York. Jan Broerse (b. ca. 1630) was born in Denmark. He immigrated to the West Indies then to America in 1644 settling in Albany, New York. He later moved to Ulster County, New York. Both men, though unrelated, began using the surname Decker about 1680. Their descendants lived in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and elsewhere.
