Calling for future law reform, Burdon questions if you will have privacy in a world of ubiquitous data collection.
Welcome to IWQOS'97 in New York City! Over the past several years, there has been a considerable amount of research within the field of Quality of Service (QOS). Much of that work has taken place within the context of QOS support for distributed multimedia systems, operating systems, transport subsystems, networks, devices and formal languages. The objective of the Fifth International Workshop on Quality of Service (IWQOS) is to bring together researchers, developers and practitioners working in all facets of QOS research. While many workshops and conferences offer technical sessions on the topic QOS, none other than IWQOS, provide a single-track workshop dedicated to QOS research. The theme...
Distributed applications are a necessity in most central application sectors of the contemporary information society, including e-commerce, e-banking, e-learning, e-health, telecommunication and transportation. This results from a tremendous growth of the role that the Internet plays in business, administration and our everyday activities. This trend is going to be even further expanded in the context of advances in broadband wireless communication. New Developments in Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems focuses on the techniques available or under development with the goal to ease the burden of constructing reliable and maintainable interoperable information systems providing...
Welcome to Middleware'98 and to one of England's most beautiful regions. In recent years the distributed systems community has witnessed a growth in the number of conferences, leading to difficulties in tracking the literature and a consequent loss of awareness of work done by others in this important field. The aim of Middleware'98 is to synthesise many of the smaller workshops and conferences in this area, bringing together research communities which were becoming fragmented. The conference has been designed to maximise the experience for attendees. This is reflected in the choice of a resort venue (rather than a big city) to ensure a strong focus on interaction with other distributed systems researchers. The programme format incorporates a question-and-answer panel in each session, enabling significant issues to be discussed in the context of related papers and presentations. The invited speakers and tutorials are intended to not only inform the attendees, but also to stimulate discussion and debate.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Innovations for Community Services, I4CS 2022, held in Delft, The Netherlands, in June 2022. The 15 full papers and 5 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 43 submissions. Three invited papers were also included in the volume. The papers focus on topics such as services for critical infrastructure; network architecture for communities; applications and services supporting work and life; community data and visualization; technology empowers industry processes; and future community support.
Our homes anticipate when we want to wake up. Our computers predict what music we want to buy. Our cars adapt to the way we drive. In today’s world, even washing machines, rice cookers and toys have the capability of autonomous decision-making. As we grow accustomed to computing power embedded in our surroundings, it becomes clear that these ‘smart environments’, with a number of devices controlled by a coordinating system capable of ‘ambient intelligence’, will play an ever larger role in our lives. This handbook provides readers with comprehensive, up-to-date coverage in what is a key technological field. . Systematically dealing with each aspect of ambient intelligence and smart...
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International ICST Conference on Sensor Systems and Software, S-Cube 2012, held in Lisbon, Portugal in June 2012. The 12 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from over 18 submissions and four invited talks and cover a wide range of topics including middleware, frameworks, learning from sensor data streams, stock management, e-health, and Web Of Things.
The proceedings set LNCS 12396 and 12397 constitute the proceedings of the 29th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2020, held in Bratislava, Slovakia, in September 2020.* The total of 139 full papers presented in these proceedings was carefully reviewed and selected from 249 submissions. They were organized in 2 volumes focusing on topics such as adversarial machine learning, bioinformatics and biosignal analysis, cognitive models, neural network theory and information theoretic learning, and robotics and neural models of perception and action. *The conference was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
