Handbook of Research on Cluster Theory

Karlsson has assembled a strong mix of papers that collectively provide a good sense of some of the latest research in the field. Edward Feser, Review of Regional Studies This is a book every regional scientist and spatial analyst should have on their bookshelf. Like most Handbook type publications it provides depth and breadth on the basics of the industrial clustering concept. However, unlike most of these type of collections, it goes beyond the foundation material to identify and speculate on questions that are emerging on the research frontiers such as at the intersection of cluster theory and agglomeration processes, knowledge spillovers and technology transfer not to mention the obviou...

THE PENAL CLUSTER

Ivar Jørgensen (31 May 1877 – 24 February 1956) was a Norwegian civil servant and politician for the Labour Party. He was born at Langstrand in Sørøysund as a son of teacher Johannes Jørgensen (1850–1892) and Beret Martha Buvik (1855–1935). He went to sea at the age of fifteen, took lower education in Kristiania and was a construction and factory laborer in Kristiania and Furnes until 1902. In 1902 he was hired in a dairy, and in 1909 he became co-owner of the dairy Fortuna Meieri. From 1916 to 1935 he was an inspector and office manager in the housing rental division of Oslo. From 1935 he was a manager of Krohgstøttens Sykehus. He was also a city council member in Kristiania from 1907 to 1922, and deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway from Oslo during the terms 1913–1915, 1916–1918 and 1919–1921. He was a board member of Kristiania Labour Party from 1906 to 1921, and also a supervisory council member of the Labour Party until 1921. He was also active in the temperance movement. He died in February 1956 and was buried at Nordre gravlund.

Cluster Analysis

Although clustering--the classification of objects into meaningful sets--is an important procedure in the social sciences today, cluster analysis as a multivariate statistical procedure is poorly understood by many social scientists. This volume is an introduction to cluster analysis for social scientists and students.

Cluster Analysis

Although clustering--the classifying of objects into meaningful sets--is an important procedure, cluster analysis as a multivariate statistical procedure is poorly understood. This volume is an introduction to cluster analysis for professionals, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students with little or no background in the subject. Reaching across disciplines, Aldenderfer and Blashfield pull together the newest information on cluster analysis--providing the reader with a pragmatic guide to its current uses, statistical techniques, validation methods, and compatible software programs.

Cluster Analysis and Applications

With the development of Big Data platforms for managing massive amount of data and wide availability of tools for processing these data, the biggest limitation is the lack of trained experts who are qualified to process and interpret the results. This textbook is intended for graduate students and experts using methods of cluster analysis and applications in various fields. Suitable for an introductory course on cluster analysis or data mining, with an in-depth mathematical treatment that includes discussions on different measures, primitives (points, lines, etc.) and optimization-based clustering methods, Cluster Analysis and Applications also includes coverage of deep learning based clustering methods. With clear explanations of ideas and precise definitions of concepts, accompanied by numerous examples and exercises together with Mathematica programs and modules, Cluster Analysis and Applications may be used by students and researchers in various disciplines, working in data analysis or data science.

This book provides the reader with a basic understanding of the formal concepts of the cluster, clustering, partition, cluster analysis etc. The book explains feature-based, graph-based and spectral clustering methods and discusses their formal similarities and differences. Understanding the related formal concepts is particularly vital in the epoch of Big Data; due to the volume and characteristics of the data, it is no longer feasible to predominantly rely on merely viewing the data when facing a clustering problem. Usually clustering involves choosing similar objects and grouping them together. To facilitate the choice of similarity measures for complex and big data, various measures of o...

One-size-fits-all cluster policies have been rightly criticized in the literature. One promising approach is to focus cluster policies on the specific needs of firms depending on the stage of development (emergence, growth, sustainment or decline) their cluster is in. In this highly insightful book, these stage-specific cluster policies are analysed and evaluated. Moreover, several chapters also focus on smart specialization policies to promote regional development by taking into account the emergence and adaptation of clusters and industries.
