Exploring the Child's Personality

The unique quality of this book is the use of the FTT in the exploration of the child's personality, using large samples of children derived from diverse cultures. Additional advantages of this book are the chapters which focus on the research into two significant personality traits: aggression and ambivalence and the chapter on the analysis of idiosyncratic responses; the latter offers valuable information in the classification of original responses into levels of psychopathology. While the FTT has taken significant steps towards becoming a valid and reliable instrument, studies of its psychometric properties are an ongoing process. The book also includes examples, case studies and appendices for further study and review."--BOOK JACKET.

Constructing Families of Constructions

Constructing Families of Constructions

Within Construction Grammar, this volume moves away from a compartmentalized view of constructions with the aim of providing a more holistic description of grammar. Thus, the book brings together analyses that look at constructional families within the “constructicon” of such languages as English, Spanish, German, Polish, Croatian, and Hungarian. Part 1 focuses on how different analytical perspectives may be applied to comparable and/or connected constructions with a view to enhancing our understanding of their similarities, differences, and relations. Part 2 contributes to the state of the art in Construction Grammar in three ways: (i) by reconciling aspects of various constructionist analyses; (ii) by determining to what extent competing constructionist perspectives can offer more adequate approaches to specific analytical needs; and (iii) by challenging central assumptions within Construction Grammar. This book is expected to encourage further research into the anatomy of constructional families and their interrelations in all domains of constructional organization.

The Criminal Triad

What is it that compels a person to choose a life of crime and deviancy over one of responsibility and social conformity? To understand exactly how and why that choice is ultimately made, we must turn to the discipline of psychology. The author presents and then deconstructs his own unique formulation of the internal deterrence system, and looks specifically at the psychosocial development of each of the proposed component parts -- attachment, morality, and identity.
