El encuentro de Festivales Iberoamericanos de Artes Escénicas (EFíbero) nació como un proyecto especial en el seno del Programa Iberescena, único espacio de cooperación intergubernamental destinado al desarrollo del teatro, la danza y el circo en la región cultural iberoamericana. Desde su creación en 2006 este programa ha sido un espacio de enorme potencial para darle un impulso destacado al sector, como lo han sido también los organismos destinados al impulso específico de la actividad teatral en diversos países de la región. No solo Argentina cuenta con un Instituto dedicado específicamente al fomento de la actividad teatral: varios países latinoamericanos han creado también sus propios organismos estatales con la misma dirección. Sin embargo, la falta de evaluación de las políticas implementadas ha sido uno de los grandes déficits de estos ejemplos de gestión pública.
Lo que vimos es una mirada profunda y reflexiva sobre el teatro independiente, realizada por la lente fotográfica de Omar Lagraña y la escritura de Fernando Belottini. Este libro recoge una serie de reseñas e imágenes de obras presentadas en la Sala de Pueblo Viejo en Concordia, Entre Ríos, Argentina, durante los años 2022 y 2023. Con una narrativa que va más allá de lo descriptivo, los autores invitan al lector a explorar las temáticas sociales, filosóficas y existenciales abordadas en cada obra, al tiempo que reivindican el rol del espectador como parte fundamental del hecho artístico.

Introducing innovative new research from international scholars working on Islamic fashion and its critics, Islamic Fashion and Anti-Fashion provides a global perspective on muslim dress practices. The book takes a broad geographic sweep, bringing together the sartorial experiences of Muslims in locations as diverse as Paris, the Canadian Prairie, Swedish and Italian bath houses and former socialist countries of Eastern Europe. In previous studies of South Asian Tantric ritual, scholars tend to focus on one region or context. For the first time, Tantra, Ritual Performance and Politics in Nepal and Kerala: Embodying the Goddess-clan offers a comparative approach to Tantric mediumship as observed in two locales: Navadurgā rituals in Bhaktapur, Nepal, and Teyyāṭṭam in North Kerala. In this book, Matthew Martin advances a new theory of ritual, which spotlights the way dancer-mediums embody medieval goddess-clans and ancestor deities, through offerings of food and sacrifice, that synchronize their denizens with the land in spiralling web-like ritual networks. Uniquely interdisciplinary in style, this study synthesizes cultural history, ethnography, and theory to explore the continuities – historical, societal, and political – that characterize these ritual traditions across the subcontinent.
Against easy framings of hijras that render them marginalized, Saria shows how hijras makes the normative Indian family possible. The book also shows that particular practices of hijras, such as refusing to use condoms or comply with retroviral regimes, reflect not ignorance or irresponsibility but rather a specific idiom of erotic asceticism arising in both Hindu and Islamic traditions. This idiom suffuses the densely intertwined registers of erotics, economics, and kinship that inform the everyday lives of hijras and offer a repertoire of self-fashioning distinct from the secularized accounts within the horizon of public health programmes and queer theory. Engrossingly written and full of keen insights, the book moves from the small pleasures of the everyday laughter, flirting, and teasing to impossible longings, kinship networks, and economies of property and of substance in order to give a fuller account of trans lives and of Indian society today.
Using primarily Urdu sources from the nineteenth century, this book allows us to rethink notions of 'the Muslim', in its numerous, complex and often contradictory forms, which emerged in colonial North India after 1857. Allowing the self-representation of Muslimness and its manifestations to emerge, it contrasts how the colonial British 'made Muslims' very differently compared to how the community envisaged themselves. A key argument made here contests the general sense of the narrative of lamentation, decay, decline, and a sense of self-pity and ruination, by proposing a different condition, that of zillat, a condition which gave rise to much self-reflection resulting in action, even if it was in the form of writing and expression. By questioning how and when a Muslim community emerged in colonial India, the book unsettles the teleological explanation of the Partition of India and the making of Pakistan.
