Zbornik je nastal v počastitev visokega življenjskega jubileja enega nestorjev slovenske umetnostne zgodovine, dolgoletnega predstojnika umetnostnozgodovinskega inštituta ZRC SAZU in sedanjega predsednika inštitutskega znanstvenega sveta, akademika Emilijana Cevca. Besedila so po vsebini razdeljena na dva dela: v uvodnem 5 prispevkov in izčrpna bibliografija neposredno predstavljajo slavljenca in njegovo delo, v drugem pa objavlja članke 39 domačih in tujih avtorjev, ki povečini zastopajo umetnostnozgodovinsko stroko s konservatorstvom, pa tudi druge humanistične vede, zlasti zgodovino, in celo naravoslovje. Teksti so razporejeni kronološko, kot celota pa predstavljajo svojevrsten mozaik, ki ne simbolizira le mnogostranskega strokovnega interesa samega slavljenca, ampak odpira širši vpogled v njegovo in sorodna področja.
