Challenges and Opportunities for Agricultural Intensification of the Humid Highland Systems of Sub-Saharan Africa
The humid highlands in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are characterized by high population densities and require intensification. The Consortium for Improving Agriculture-based Livelihoods in Central Africa (CIALCA) has set up a research for development platform in various mandate areas in DR Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda, aiming to identify improved production, market, and nutrition options and facilitating the access for development partners to these options. This platform is supported by capacity building, multi-stakeholder dialogue, and monitoring and evaluation efforts. The conference, facilitated by CIALCA, aimed to (i) take stock of the state-of the art in agricultural intensification in the highlands of SSA and (ii) chart the way forward for agricultural research for development in the humid highlands of SSA, and more specifically in the recently launched Humidtropics Consortium Research Programme, through keynote, oral and poster presentations, and strategic panel discussions.

1.1 Introduction Management of public finance is the responsibility of the Central, State and Local Self Governments. This arises in the content of the responsibility of the respective goals to look after the welfare of the people. In order to finance these expenditures, governments have to mobilize funds by way of taxes in addition to receiving financial assistance from the central and state governments and other institutions. Mobilization of necessary financial resources and the proper spending of the amounts are the major responsibilities of the governments concerned. The administrative efficiency of a government depends upon the manner in which public finance is successfully managed to the best advantage of the society. This is a difficult task requiring dedication and honesty on the part of the governments at all levels.

The Politics of Belonging in India
Since the 1990s, the Indigenous movement worldwide has become increasingly relevant to research in India, re-shaping the terms of engagement with Adivasi (Indigenous/tribal) peoples and their pasts. Carbon Sequestration Potential of Agroforestry Systems
Tree based production systems abound especially in the tropics. Despite the pervasiveness of such multipurpose “trees-outside-forest” resources, they have not attracted adequate attention in the development paradigms of many nation states. These multispecies production systems impact the ecosystem processes favourably. Yet, our understanding of the diversity attributes and carbon dynamics under agroforestry is not adequate. This book focuses on the role of multispecies production systems involving tree and crop species as a means for carbon sequestration and thereby reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
