The Kennedys

The Kennedys may well be the most photographed, written about, talked about, admired, hated, and controversial family in American history. But for all the words and pictures, the real story was not told until Peter Collier and David Horowitz spent years researching archives and interviewing both family members and hundreds of people close to the Kennedys. An immediate classic, The Kennedys combines intimate knowledge with a perspective free of obligations to family loyalties and myths, bringing the story of four generations of “America’s family” fully into view. Collier and Horowitz capture the strain of ambition; the dynastic ebb and flow; the invention of a mythic identity; the corro...

A World of Struggle

  • Categories: Law

How today's unjust global order is shaped by uncertain expert knowledge—and how to fix it A World of Struggle reveals the role of expert knowledge in our political and economic life. As politicians, citizens, and experts engage one another on a technocratic terrain of irresolvable argument and uncertain knowledge, a world of astonishing inequality and injustice is born. In this provocative book, David Kennedy draws on his experience working with international lawyers, human rights advocates, policy professionals, economic development specialists, military lawyers, and humanitarian strategists to provide a unique insider's perspective on the complexities of global governance. He describes t...

Word Stew

David A. Kennedy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 29, 1956. He is a self-taught musician who began to play in Philadelphia area bands in the early 1970s. While composing original songs, David discovered that he possessed a particular talent for writing lyrics. However, he soon found that musical compositions could not provide him with the proper outlet for total poetic self-expression. In 1972, he composed his first poem free of musical accompaniment. Since that time, he has written more than three hundred poems in rhyme and free verse. Word Stew is a collection of Davids finest works. His writings explore varied themes that are sometimes dark, sometimes introspective, sometimes spiritual, sometimes humorous, but always germane to the human condition. David currently resides in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in world languages, and a masters degree in education, both from Holy Family University. David serves as director of a small private school in Yardley, Pennsylvania, where he also teaches Spanish and English. He continues to perform as a musician and express his innermost thoughts through his poetic creations.

Of War and Law

  • Categories: Law

Modern war is law pursued by other means. Once a bit player in military conflict, law now shapes the institutional, logistical, and physical landscape of war. At the same time, law has become a political and ethical vocabulary for marking legitimate power and justifiable death. As a result, the battlespace is as legally regulated as the rest of modern life. In Of War and Law, David Kennedy examines this important development, retelling the history of modern war and statecraft as a tale of the changing role of law and the dramatic growth of law's power. Not only a restraint and an ethical yardstick, law can also be a weapon--a strategic partner, a force multiplier, and an excuse for terrifyin...

Brothers

Robert F. Kennedy was the first conspiracy theorist about his brother's murder. In this astonishingly compelling and convincing new account of the Kennedy years, acclaimed journalist David Talbot tells in a riveting, superbly researched narrative why, even on 22 November 1963, RFK had reason to believe that dark forces were at work in Dallas and reveals, for the first time, that he planned to open an investigation into the assassination had he become president in 1968. BROTHERS also portrays a JFK administration more besieged by internal enemies than has previously been realised, from within the Pentagon, the CIA, the FBI and the mafia. This frightening portrait of sinister elements within and without the government serves as the background for the emotionally charged journey of Robert Kennedy. Reading it, you can absolutely believe any number of people would have been happy for both brothers to meet a sticky end. The tragedy, not just for America but for the world, is that since their murders no one has had the nerve to stand against the dark forces they challenged in quite the same way.
