Optimization of multiphase permanent magnet synchronous machines on system level with reduced losses

The requirements of an electrical machine (EM) in Electric- (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) are high power density, a stator and rotor field with low harmonic content and best acoustic behavior. Six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) have significant benefits over conventional three-phase PMSMs, such as reduced current per inverter phase leg, less fundamental losses because of a better winding factor and increased fault tolerance. Despite their advantages, considering the same installation space, the torque per ampere increase of a six-phase PMSM is very marginal. Therefore, the main focus of this dissertation lies in increasing the power density of the multiphase ele...

Current Trends In Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers

With significant progress made in recent years, vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) have emerged as potential lightwave sources with a variety of applications, including high speed optical interconnects, parallel data links, optical recording, 2-D scanning, and optical signal processing. This volume, which contains a collection of articles by outstanding experts on this topic, encompasses a broad discussion of the current trends in the development of VCSELs. Discussions include material growths, structure designs, processing methods, performance analysis, improvement strategies, and future prospects. The collection provides a comprehensive overview that may help newcomers to this field as well as engineers and researchers who are engaged in the research and development of this new exciting device family.

When 7-year-old Anna told a lie to get out of trouble, she didn’t expect her older sister to go missing. Faced with her mother’s wrath and riddled with guilt, Anna tries to make amends as she grapples with the aftermath of her actions. Until her daughter’s body is found, Su Lai refuses to believe that she has simply disappeared. Turning to a medium as her obsession to find her daughter escalates, the family is sucked into a web of pain and deceit that forces them to confront their own measures of loss. A masterful debut by Jinny Koh, The Gods Will Hear Us Eventually boldly interrogates the extent of familial love and expectation while unravelling the complexities of hope and redemption.
