Once Upon a Time...
Once upon a time, a number of adventurous scientists moved out from the known terrain of scientific literature to explore the terrain of science related story writing and storytelling. They aimed to create short stories, which address the current threats our oceans undergo due to "human-made" climate change, contamination and exploitation. The first part of the adventure is now completed. The imagination formed into words and several illustrators took a step further to transform words into images. We present before you these adventures and invite you to sail with us. "Once Upon a Time... a Scientific Fairy Tale. Volume I", is an anthology of nine stories, two poems and one sustainable lifestyle guide. This is the first result of a collaborative effort of 29 scientists (the "Once Upon a Time-team", OUAT-team) and the professional support of several artists. The protagonist of the stories and poems are marine and terrestrial animals, grown-ups and youngsters, people like you and us.

Es waren einmal ein paar mutige Wissenschaftler, die sich aus ihrem gewohnten Umfeld der Fachliteratur herausbewegten, um Kurzgeschichten und Erzählkunst zu erkunden. Era uma vez, um grupo de cientistas aventureiras e aventureiros que resolveram sair do seu mundo científico para explorar novos horizontes da escrita e leitura de estórias relacionadas com ciências. Elas e eles tinham o objetivo de criar estórias curtas, que abordassem as ameaças atuais que os nossos oceanos vêm sofrendo devido à mudança climática, contaminação e exploração causadas pelo ser humano. A primeira parte dessa aventura foi concluída. A imaginação posta em palavras e diversas ilustrações deram um passo adiante para se transformarem em contos de fadas científicos. Convidamos vocês a embarcar juntos nessa aventura. "Era uma vez ... um conto de fadas científico – Volume I", é uma antologia de nove estórias, dois poemas e um guia de estilo de vida sustentável. Este é o primeiro resultado de um esforço colaborativo de 29 cientistas (A equipe de "Era uma vez" ou "Once Upon A Time", em inglês, Equipe-OUAT) com o apoio profissional de vários artistas. Os protagonistas das estórias e poemas são animais marinhos e terrestres, adultos e jovens, pessoas como você e nós.

C'era una volta un certo numero di scienziati avventurosi che si spostavano dal terreno conosciuto della letteratura scientifica per esplorare il terreno della scrittura e della narrazione di storie legate alla scienza. Il loro obiettivo era quello di creare racconti brevi, riguardo alle attuali minacce che i nostri oceani devono affrontare a causa del cambiamento climatico, dell'inquinamento e del sovrasfruttamento derivanti dalle azioni dell'uomo. La prima parte dell'avventura è ora completata. L'immaginazione si è trasformata in parole, e diversi illustratori si sono fatti avanti ed hanno trasformato le parole in immagini. Vi presentiamo queste avventure e vi invitiamo a navigare con noi.

Il était une fois un groupe de scientifiques téméraires qui décida de délaisser les terrains connus de la littérature scientifique pour explorer le monde de la vulgarisation scientifique et de la narration. Il chercha à créer un recueil de nouvelles, qui traiteraient des enjeux actuels auxquels sont confrontés les océans en raison des changements climatiques « créés » par l'homme, mais aussi des contaminations et de l'exploitation. La première partie de l'aventure est maintenant accomplie. L'imagination des nombreux auteurs s'est traduite par des mots, que plusieurs illustrateurs ont ensuite transformés en images. Nous vous invitons donc à naviguer avec nous à travers ces aventures. « Il était une fois... Un conte de fées scientifique – Volume I » est un recueil de neuf nouvelles, de deux poèmes et d'un guide vers un mode vie durable. Il est le résultat d'une collaboration entre 29 scientifiques (l'équipe « Once Upon a Time » ou équipe OUAT), avec le soutien professionnel de plusieurs artistes. Les protagonistes de ces histoires et poèmes sont des animaux marins et terrestres, des jeunes et des moins jeunes, des gens comme vous et nous.

Noong unang panahon, mayroong mga siyentipikong lumabas mula sa kani-kanilang sariling laboratoryo upang subukang tuklasin ang kakaibang mundo ng panitikang pang-agham. Como desafío se propusieron crear historias cortas con contenidos relacionados a las amenazas que nuestros océanos están sufriendo debido al cambio climático causado por las actividades humanas, la contaminación y explotación de los recursos marinos. La primera parte de la aventura ha llegado a su final. La imaginación tomó forma en palabras y varios ilustradores llevaron las palabras un paso más allá para convertirlas en imágenes. This book is dedicated to the study of structure and transport of deep and bottom waters above and through underwater channels of the Atlantic Ocean. The study is based on recent observations, analysis of historical data, and literature reviews.
