This memoir of Leslie B. DeMille chronicles his passion for creating art throughout his life. He started at a young age with pencil sketches of the backs of heads of the people in front of him in church. Through the winning of three first place awards for his oil paintings at ages 11, 15, and 16, he was validated that this is the road he should take. In order to learn more about art and promote his work, he moved the family, his wife and five children, ages ten and under, plus the dog to California. Subsequently, he became internationally renowned for his work and inspiration through his galleries, workshops, and demonstrations. This story relates his accomplishments and the stories along the way.

The PRIME Leadership Framework

The PRIME Leadership Framework describes the leadership principles and action indicators that the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics endorses and that all mathematics education leaders should aspire toward to create equity and excellence in math education for all students. The PRIME Leadership Framework does not describe or endorse any specific leadership style. The framework is intended to engage leaders in conversations about what should be the focus of individual and collective leadership actions, energy, and effort, and seeks to expand the role of teacher leaders in mathematics education. PRIME is a what to do document and not a prescriptive how to do or how to be document. A...

As climate change threatens to open the Northwest Passage to ice-free travel, Canadian sovereignty over the Arctic has come to the fore. Although Canada’s claim to the Arctic archipelago is now firmly entrenched in the minds of Canadians, less than a century ago, that claim was much less secure. Acts of Occupation draws on a wealth of previously untapped archival sources to piece together the engrossing story of how one explorer’s self-serving ambition ultimately led Canada to craft and defend a decisive Arctic policy. Historians Cavell and Noakes show how unfounded paranoia about Danish designs on the north, fueled by a deliberate campaign of deceit and fear-mongering, was the catalyst for Canada’s active administrative occupation of the Arctic. A compelling tale, Acts of Occupation throws new light on a transformative period in the history of Canadian Arctic policy and provides much-needed historical context for contemporary debates on northern sovereignty.

This book in itself is testimony to transition in the affairs of the north circumpolar region. Written in 1988 and updated in 1990, the papers assembled here have been overtaken by events. Non-military or civil requirements thus seemed to warrant a new and far more important place in our understanding of security. It's appopriate to explore not only the potential of civil cooperation in countering the force of militarism, but the utility of a comprehensive conception of Arctic security. This book will look at how these views fare, once we've had a look at the region and its problems.
