The Ecstatic Imagination
The Ecstatic Imagination provides the first general theory of psychedelic experiences. Merkur refutes several theories that have been used to explain single categories of psychedelic experience, and offers instead a unitary theory that is applicable to all varieties. The book treats self-reports of psychedelic experiences as a wealth of neglected data which forms the basis to expand the psychoanalytic model of human imagination. An exhaustive phenomenology of the varieties of LSD, mescaline, and psilocybin experiences in Western and Native American cultures is joined together with psychoanalytic theories drawn from the classical, ego psychological, and object relations schools. Muscular Dystrophy Research
In the last decade, if not only in the last five years, an unprecedented advance occured in the understanding of the primary defect involved in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As a consequence, new promising lines and trends of research emerged: molecular diagnosis by use of anti-dystrophin antibodies or by DNA probes and those more strictly dealing with the perspectives of therapy, including myoblast transfer and gene therapy. The many outstanding papers which appear in this volume document the incredible power of modern tools of medical research in unravelling the complexity of the pathology and in finding new therapeutical strategies.
