Cross Border Themes in Petroleum Geology II
A cross-border approach to exploration, appraisal and development is important in mature areas, such as the Atlantic Margin, and in frontier areas, such as the Barents Sea. An approach of this nature emphasizes the need to see the basin as one geological entity to maximize economic recovery and prepare the area for the energy transition. This volume offers an up-to-date, ‘geology-without-borders’ view of the stratigraphy, sedimentology and tectonics trends in these areas. It also looks at the challenges associated with differences in data continuity and nomenclature across median lines. A companion volume (SP494), Cross-Border Themes in Petroleum Geology I: The North Sea, provides a similar cross-border analysis for the North Sea Basin across the offshore boundaries of Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and the UK. Sedimentary Evolution and Hazardous Geology during the Holocene in the Yangtze River and the Red River Deltas and the Neighboring Coastal Areas
The Yangtze River (Changjiang) and the Red River (Song Hong) that originate in highlands of the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau, two of the largest rivers in East and Southeast Asia in terms of water and sediment discharge into oceans, play a pivotal role in the global biogeochemical cycle. The Yangtze River Delta is located at the west coast of the East China Sea and the Red River delta at the west coast of the Gulf of Tonkin in the South China Sea. Both were initiated during the early to middle Holocene.
Paleobiodiversity and Tectono-Sedimentary Records in the Mediterranean Tethys and Related Eastern Areas
This edited volume contains the best papers accepted for presentation during the 1st Springer Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG-1), Tunisia 2018. The volume shares the latest results from paleontological, biostratigraphic and sedimentological studies by experienced researchers mainly from research institutes in the Mediterranean and Middle East. Core Values: the Role of Core in Twenty-first Century Reservoir Characterization
Deep subsurface characterization technologies and demands are changing rapidly within the energy industry. In this swiftly evolving landscape, the wide range of analyses performed on the rocks and fluids obtained from cores remain fundamental tools in managing subsurface uncertainty and associated risk. During the energy transition large volumes of newly acquired and legacy core will be accessed to better understand both existing hydrocarbon resources and other subsurface energy-related systems, particularly for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), geothermal energy and the long-term storage of nuclear waste. Through state-of-the-art reviews and case studies this volume illustrates how innovative approaches continue to create value from both new and historical cores recovered for deep subsurface reservoir characterization and storage complex evaluation. Such an assessment is timely given that the sector sits at a pivotal point in terms of changing technologies, economics, demographics, skillsets and energy solutions.
35th IAS Meeting of Sedimentology: Book of Abstracts
The 35th International Meeting of Sedimentology supported by the International Association of Sedimentologists is an annual conference with global impact among the community of sedimentary geologists. Original scheduled at June 2020, the 35 the IAS Meeting of Sedimentology was postponed to June 21-25, 2021, and will be held virtually. The main convenor, Ondřej Bábek, is an employee of Palacký University Olomouc.
Contributions to Modern and Ancient Tidal Sedimentology
Tidal deposits have been a specific research topic for about 40 years, and whilst this has resulted in a proliferation of papers in scientific journals, there have only been a few book-length syntheses. Over the years, tidal sedimentology has been reinforced by fluid mechanics and numerical modelling but has remained rooted in facies and stratigraphic studies. Recent developments in tidal sedimentology lean toward a more quantitative assessment of the imprint of tides in the facies record of intertidal and shallow subtidal areas. They highlight the increasing relevance of tidal deposits studies, from high resolution subsurface reservoir geology to climate change and sea-level rise. This volume gathers 17 contributions to the Tidalites 2012 congress held in Caen, France. It reflects current advances in the sedimentology and stratigraphy of tidal deposits, in both ancient and modern environments. It shows the current diversity of this field of research, through a wide spectrum of methods including remote sensing, in-situ hydrodynamical measurements, and ichnology, in addition to classic field studies and petrography.
