If you're a fan of the Old West, and more so if you like duding up in western ware, this book is for you. Don collected the artifacts of Old West clothing-cowboy hats, high-heeled boots, vests, neckerchiefs, pistols, leather chaps, spurs, pocket watches, string ties, and sleeve garters-so he could participate in various reenactments in San Antonio...And his collection grew bigger and bigger and bigger until he had a garage full of period clothing and accoutrements from the 19th century. Don't buy this book if you don't want to see others outfitted in the clothing of the Old West, but if you want to see a host of ideas for your own reenactment club or closet wardrobe then this book is for you. Lawman, gunfighter, saloon keeper, cowboy, miner, rancher, bounty hunter, banker, pastor, outlaw...

Volume One of Two. Don Kirk has been traveling the West for many years searching for the physical remains of the American West of the 1800's. He found many abandoned buildings with weathered clapboards sitting precariously on rotting cedar posts. He found desert towns with dilapidated boardwalks, squeaking windmills on the open plains, and boarded-up mine shafts. He found recreations of Old West villages built as movie sets for westerns, and he drew from scratch fictional towns to be built for the next great western theme park. These Pen & Inks were originally drawn back in the early 1990's for use on notecards, stationary, postcards, and art prints and this is the first reproduction of some of those works of art that you can use for coloring with pencil or crayon or for just looking at. Now you can flip through these pages and rediscover the Old West with Don Kirk's Western Art.

This book investigates for the first time the parallels between two island appendages of much larger governments - Okinawa, Japan's southernmost island prefecture, in ferment over historic US bases; Jeju embroiled over a new South Korean naval base. The people of Okinawa and Jeju share a common fear of bloody conflict again erupting around them and suspect their governments would sacrifice their interests in a much larger war in a fight for regional control between the US, Japan, and China.

This photographic compendium is an album of pictures revealing many of the West's visual wonders. The author and wife would hit the road in a 1993 Volkswagon Eurovan for two weeks once each summer. What could they see of the original American West as it had looked while being founded in the 1800's and even earlier? With a Nikon 35mm still camera Don and Jo M. got a taste of the American West and a few areas to the east too. Hopefully this massive full-color book will entice you to head out west a time or two to see, absorb, and explore a still surviving wonderment. If you're not spellbound by snow-capped mountains, dry barren deserts, and wind-beaten ghost towns, you're not on the road, you're just watching some flat-screen television.
