Photos in the Attic

Photos in the Attic is a compelling romance that follows the heart-wrenching story of a soldier caught between the love of two women. The tale is brought to life with the discovery of the Thuillier photos that were taken in Vignacourt, France, during World War I. These images hold answers to some questions raised by a current-day character, VALERIE BERNARD, who is a village local. In 1916, ROSIE MARCHAND leaves her hometown of Albert on the Somme. A survivor of the war, she finds shelter in the home of her cousin, photographer LOUIS THUILLIER, a shell-shocked veteran of Verdun, who with his wife ANTOINETTE takes pictures of soldiers behind the lines. For Australian BILL FOSTER, the war is a ...

During the winter of 2014, a team of Archaeologists brought to light the most important concentration of soldier graffiti dating from the Great War. To their surprise, located throughout the Naours caves in Northern France, rediscovered by the local Abbot in 1877, they discovered inscriptions written by soldiers of many nations made during the First World War. Intensive research of these inscriptions has led to an amazing inventory of nearly 3000 names ,most of them of Australian soldiers. Ongoing research has unearthed incredible, individual stories of these Soldiers at War. These were men. We now know their names and we want to discover their stories. Some received medals, some returned home after the war and many paid the ultimate sacrifice. Their inscriptions are their lasting legacy! "Shadows Beneath the Somme" unearths individual and unique stories of 40 Australian men who went to war and wrote their names on cave walls under the village of Naours.

'Utterly compelling from the first page' - Kerry Hudson 'Gripping . . . this is one not to miss' - Irish Times For two years, Donna McLean lived a life of bliss with her boyfriend, Carlo. But her great love story wasn't just built on lies - it was one. Because Carlo wasn't a bike-obsessed Italian locksmith at all; he was a British police officer, part of a unit that had worked undercover for years to infiltrate activist groups across the country. More than twenty of those officers deliberately targeted women and duped them into relationships, posing as socialists, environmental campaigners and union reps, before vanishing without a trace. Small Town Girl is Donna's shattering story of a life turned upside down overnight, and her reclamation of a truth that was shamelessly buried by those who should be protecting the most vulnerable in society. 'Mind-blowing, gut-wrenching, shocking and beautifully written' - Chris Atkins

Early in 2008, my husband died, after forty very eventful years together. Devastated by his loss, I finished writing the biography he had started, depicting those years, and titled it See You Later, Darlin', which was his catchphrase. A tribute to him and the other West Indian immigrants who came to Britain in the 1950s, the book is full of passion and soul. It tells of the courage shown by a generation to whom so much is owed. Shocking in parts, but yet it is uplifting too. Following the books publication, I received e-mails, letters, and comments from readers who had been in similar situations. Encouraged by their correspondence, I wrote this sequel, Later, Darlin', based on how I and others dealt with issues such as financial affairs, getting back into a social life, dating, and even whether it is "cool" to have a sex life over sixty. Full of humor and respect, it shows how people can heal and move forward. I hope others will be empowered by this book to do the same in similar circumstances.

Flipped learning—in which students view recorded lectures outside of the classroom and then utilize class time to develop a broad range of knowledge and skills—is a relatively new phenomenon. This timely volume examines and organizes the emerging research on flipped learning in higher education. It identifies the types of courses, material, and learning objectives that are most effectively flipped, with specialized advice for faculty in STEM fields, the social sciences, and humanities. The book also provides evidence-based guidance on how to create and disseminate engaging recorded lectures; develop and implement in-class exercises and projects that help students meet learning objectives; orient students to the flipped classroom; and assess the effectiveness of flipped learning.
