Commercial Supersonic Technology
High-speed flight is a major technological challenge for both commercial and business aviation. As a first step in revitalizing efforts by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to achieve the technology objective of high-speed air travel, NASA requested the National Research Council (NRC) to conduct a study that would identify approaches for achieving breakthroughs in research and technology for commercial supersonic aircraft. Commercial Supersonic Technology documents the results of that effort. This report describes technical areas where ongoing work should be continued and new focused research initiated to enable operational deployment of an environmentally acceptable, economically viable commercial aircraft capable of sustained supersonic flight, including flight over land, at speeds up to approximately Mach 2 in the next 25 years or less.

Performance, Stability, Dynamics, and Control of Airplanes
This book provides a comprehensive and integrated exposure to airplane performance, stability, dynamics, and flight control. The text supports a two-semester course for senior undergraduate or first-year graduate students in aerospace engineering. Basic aerodynamics, dynamics, and linear control systems are presented to help the reader grasp the main subject matter. In this text, the airplane is assumed to be a rigid body-elastic deformations and their effects on airplane motion are not considered. Numerous solved examples illustrate theory and design methods. Finite Element Multidisciplinary Analysis
Annotation This book fills a gap within the finite element literature by addressing the challenges and developments in multidiscipli-nary analysis. Dirichlet
This is the first extensive biography of the influential German mathematician, Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet (1805 – 1859). Dirichlet made major contributions to number theory in addition to clarifying concepts such as the representation of functions as series, the theory of convergence, and potential theory. His mathematical methodology was explicitly based on a thorough knowledge of the work of his predecessors and his belief in the underlying unity of the branches of mathematics. This unified approach is exemplified in a paper that effectively launched the field of analytic number theory. The same orientation pervaded his teaching, which had a profound influence on the work of many mathematicians of subsequent generations.
