Jingshin Theoretical Physics Symposium In Honor Of Prof Ta-you Wu
Prof T-Y Wu is not only an eminent physicist with an encyclopedic knowledge, but also a motivational teacher and an influential policy maker in science and technology. The young Wu was inspired by Prof Y-T Yao, whose course on modern physics sparked an interest that burned during a long and productive career. Among Wu's achievements are 14 books and more than 120 papers covering subjects from atomic and molecular physics to plasmas and gases to atmospheric physics to relativity theory. Even at the age of 90 he remains active, publishing papers and lecturing on physics.Prof Wu feels grateful that he had the opportunity to educate a group of extremely talented students and, in particular, to discover T D Lee's remarkable talent. Although creative talent is no doubt a product of nature, it must also be nurtured. Prof Wu has played a crucial role for an entire generation of physicists in China and has won great respect from former students such as C N Yang, T D Lee, K Huang, and countless others. Prof Wu's love of physics and his dedication in teaching and research will always be remembered.
Calorimetry In High Energy Physics - Proceedings Of The Fifth International Conference
The Fifth International Conference on Calorimetry in High Energy Physics was held Sept. 25 - Oct. 1, 1994 at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The results presented show that calorimetry is a key element in the experiments at the frontier. As these experiments evolve, there are new challenges for calorimetry in terms of performance in energy and position resolution at ever increasing rates. The proceedings document the state-of-the-art in calorimetry.
Interactions Between Particle and Nuclear Physics
The Proceedings of the 6th Conference on Intersections Between Particle and Nuclear Physics contains papers from astrophysicists and nuclear and particle physicists from 21 countries. The topics discussed cover many subjects, from relativistic heavy ion physics and high-energy tests of QCD, which require the highest energy accelerators, to low-energy tests of the electroweak standard model. The energy range extended from physics with ultracold neutrons, involving kinetic energies below 10-6 eV to cosmic ray physics, studying primaries at an energy of 1020 eV. There are many connections between topics, such as the role of strange quarks in neutron stars or as possible signal of a quark-gluon plasma. There are new results including neutrino physics from Super-Kamiokande and evidence for a glueball mixed into the scalar mesons. There are also reviews of topics such as CP violation, lepton-flavor violation, and charm physics.
