This book is concerned with the gilded age, which covers the period from 1869 to 1901. It presents the presidencies of Ulysses S. Grant, James Garfield, Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison and William McKinley. The era depicts the financial and military transformation of the United States into one of the world’s powers, and also discusses the beginning of military adventures into foreign lands, especially the Far East.
