Modern Pharmacology And Toxicology

Modern Pharmacology And Toxicology

Modern pharmacology and toxicology is a branch of medicine, biology, and the pharmaceutical sciences that studies how drugs and medicines work. A drug can be any molecule, whether it's made in a lab, found in nature, or made by the body itself. To describe any species, either endogenous or foreign, that influences the biochemistry or physiology of a cell, tissue, organ, or organism, the term "pharmacon" is occasionally used. The study of interactions between living things and substances that influence both normal and aberrant biochemical activity is what it is known as in more particular terms. Pharmaceuticals are any compounds that may be used to treat or prevent disease. Toxicology is a field that draws from many other scientific disciplines, hence the work and interests of toxicologists span many areas. As we now know that all compounds may cause toxicity according to the exposure time and dosage, toxicologists are primarily interested in the mechanisms of action of various agents. Nonetheless, scientists are currently trying to determine the routes or endogenous molecules that are affected by even the most well-known and ancient substances, which results in toxicity.

Botany: Plants Physiology And Metabolism

This book is geared toward students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and focuses on the basics of plant physiology. This book discusses the distinct mechanisms of water and ion transport, as well as the various metabolic events that are essential for plant development and result from plants' ability to capture photons from sunlight, convert inorganic forms of nutrition into organic forms, and synthesize high energy molecules such as ATP. In addition, this book describes the various metabolic events that result from plants' ability to convert inorganic forms of nutrition into organic forms. The detection and transduction of light signals work in perfect coordination with a broad range...

Phytochemicals in Medicinal Plants

Benefitting from phytochemicals in medicinal plants has lately gained increasingly more global relevance. The medicinal bioactivity might range from wound healing activity to anti-inflammatory and anti-viral effects. This work describes the challenging scientific process of systematic identification and taxonomy through molecular profiling and nanoparticle production from plant extracts until a final use for e.g. cancer or HIV treatment. From the table of contents PART A: Biodiversity & Traditional Knowledge. __Habitats and Distribution. __Threats and Conservation. __Culture, tradition and indigenous practices. PART B: Phytochemical constituents – Molecules and Characterization Techniques....

Pre-Descemet’s Endothelial Keratoplasty (PDEK)

Corneal transplantation is a widely practised surgical procedure. Lamellar techniques are favoured replacing penetrating keratoplasty (PK). Endothelial keratoplasty (EK) has been adapted as an alternative in the treatment of corneal endothelial disorders whereby Descemet’s membrane and the endothelium are replaced. Pre-Descemet’s endothelial keratoplasty (PDEK) is the latest surgical technique for corneal transplantation. This book is a step by step guide to PDEK for practising ophthalmologists. Divided into five sections, the text begins with the basics explaining corneal anatomy, pre-operative assessment, general techniques in keratoplasty, and the principles of PDEK. The following cha...
