Social Prevention and the Social Sciences
The volume contains a collection of papers presented at the Fourth International Symposium of the Special Research Unit ""Prevention and Intervention in Childhood and Adolescence"" at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Bielefeld, in December 1988. The theoretical discussions focus on the societal causes of the increased demand for social prevention and the theoretical, political and ethical limits of such measures. Furthermore methodological problems (meta-analysis, evaluation research and longitudinal research) are discussed in general articles and special research.

Developments in Crime and Crime Control Research
"One of the central features of modern German criminology in revealing the 'true nature of crime' follows the tradition of enlightment" instead of accommodating the approach of the criminal justice system. This contention is made by the editors of Developments in Crime and Crime Control Research, Drs. Sessar and Kerner, as they continue to bridge the traditional gap between Anglo-American scholars in criminology and their German counterparts. The language barrier has long been another contributing circumstance to the division of philosophy among countries, but recently, substantial attempts are being undertaken to examine more closely the differences among specific criminological schools of thinking. Drs. The Social Construction of Corruption in Europe
The volume demonstrates the suitability of the theory of social constructivism in portraying and analyzing the diversity of the phenomenon of corruption. The approach of social constructivism taken in this volume is able to reconstruct the 'construction of corruption' both from a societal perspective, by assessing it as generally accepted or tolerated behaviour in more or less standardized rule-governed social situations, and from the perspective of actors who perceive corrupt behaviour as problem solving in everyday life. The volume proves the usefulness of a social construction perspective for empirical research. It contains case studies of social definitions of corruption in eleven European countries that contribute in different ways to establishing a grounded theory of the phenomenon of corruption.
