Guidelines for Essential Trauma Care
Injury is an increasingly significant health problem throughout the world, accounting for 16 per cent of the global burden of disease. The public health burden of death and disability from injury is particularly notable in low and middle income countries. These guidelines seek to establish practical and affordable standards applicable to injury or trauma care worldwide, whether in rural health posts, small hospitals, hospitals staffed by specialists or tertiary care centres. It sets out a list of key trauma treatment services designed to be achievable in all settings, and defines the various human and physical resources required. It also includes a number of recommendations for methods to promote such standards including training, performance improvement, trauma team organisation and hospital inspection.

French Quarter Tales
Magic realism is a term that is often used to describe the fiction of such Latin American writers as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Julio Cortazar and Jorge Luis Borges. Literary critics such as Seymour Menton have contended that it is also present in the art and literature of Germany, Italy, France and the United States after World War I. The stories in French Quarter Tales follow such a tradition by presenting unusual (and even supernatural) situations within very familiar settings. Professor Perez explores in these stories the boundaries between reality and the supernatural, love and hate, good and evil. Days of National Festivity in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1823–1889
Official and popular celebrations marked the Brazilian empire's days of national festivity, and these civic rituals were the occasion for often intense debate about the imperial regime. Hendrik Kraay explores the patterns of commemoration in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the meanings of the principal institutions of the constitutional monarchy established in 1822–24 (which were celebrated on days of national festivity), and the challenges to the imperial regime that took place during the festivities. While officialdom and the narrow elite sought to control civic rituals, the urban lower classes took an active part in them, although their popular festivities were not always welcomed by the elite. Days of National Festivity is the first book to provide a systematic analysis of civic ritual in a Latin American country over a long period of time—and in doing so, it offers new perspectives on the Brazilian empire, elite and popular politics, and urban culture.
Sangre De Cristo
MONEY, GREED, BETRAYAL,CORRUPTION, AND FINALLY JUSTICE Alfred Curran is the sole heir to the Sangre de Cristo agricultural empire. When he returns to run it he realizes it is a corrupt feudal state. Curran has lost his memory and before he recovers it he and the doctor are arrested and thrown into the living hell of Los Altos Prison. When Curran recovers his memory and escapes from Los Altos he discovers that he has been framed for murder and that his wife and land have been stolen. He assumes a new identity and returns to the Sangre for revenge. He finds redemption and the woman he loves.
Evangelicals and Electoral Politics in Latin America
Why are religious minorities well represented and politically influential in some democracies but not others? Focusing on evangelical Christians in Latin America, this book argues that religious minorities seek and gain electoral representation when they face significant threats to their material interests and worldview, and when their community is not internally divided by cross-cutting cleavages. Differences in Latin American evangelicals' political ambitions emerged as a result of two critical junctures: episodes of secular reform in the early twentieth century and the rise of sexuality politics at the turn of the twenty-first. In Brazil, significant threats at both junctures prompted extensive electoral mobilization; in Chile, minimal threats meant that mobilization lagged. In Peru, where major cleavages divide both evangelicals and broader society, threats prompt less electoral mobilization than otherwise expected. The multi-method argument leverages interviews, content analysis, survey experiments, ecological analysis, and secondary case studies of Colombia, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
