It is crucial today to understand how religions can exist harmoniously in a shared environment, whether local or global. A reasoned approach to this question was sought by participants at a stimulating conference of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) in a predominantly Muslim country, Indonesia. Themes treated include the relation between theoretical approaches and religious viewpoints, practical problems and conflict resolution at the local level, and religious education with special reference to the role of Muslim schools (pesantren) in Indonesia.

"I Come from a Pancasila Family"
This book examines social identity transformations through interreligious relations in post-Reformasi Indonesia. It answers two questions: how do Muslims and Christians identify and position themselves and others; and what are the socio-cognitive effects of their identification and positioning? The objectives are, first, to gain insight into the relation between religious discourse and (the lack of) social cohesion, and, second, to contribute to a theory and method of studying interreligious relations. The study is based on 24 focus group discussions in Surakarta (Central Java), making a critical discourse analysis of them. The book concludes that the interviewees use various classifications to identify and position themselves and others, although these are not fixed but fluid, depending on specific situations and interests. The book advocates for a shift from the 'social identity' theory to a 'multiple identity' theory for studying religion and interreligious relations. (Series: Interreligious Studies - Vol. 6)
Christianity and Transforming States
This volume examines what it means to live as a Christian minority: both in non-Christian societies and in societies where other forms of Christianity are predominant. Many Christians live in states where other religions have historically influenced national identities, or where secularism defines communal expectations. Proselytizing and the Limits of Religious Pluralism in Contemporary Asia
This volume brings together a range of critical studies that explore diverse ways in which processes of globalization pose new challenges and offer new opportunities for religious groups to propagate their beliefs in contemporary Asian contexts. Proselytizing tests the limits of religious pluralism, as it is a practice that exists on the border of tolerance and intolerance. The practice of proselytizing presupposes not only that people are freely-choosing agents and that religion itself is an issue of individual preference. At the same time, however, it also raises fraught questions about belonging to particular communities and heightens the moral stakes in involved in such choices. In many contemporary Asian societies, questions about the limits of acceptable proselytic behavior have taken on added urgency in the current era of globalization. Recognizing this, the studies brought together here serve to develop our understandings of current developments as it critically explores the complex ways in which contemporary contexts of religious pluralism in Asia both enable, and are threatened by, projects of proselytization.

Memulihkan Hak Pilih TNI dan POLRI di PEMILU
Hak asasi manusia merupakan entitas dasar yang dilindungi dari setiap warga negara Indonesia dalam memperoleh akses kebebasan menjalankan hak-hak politik, terutama berhak ikut serta di Pemilu. Sejatinya, tidak ada warga negara yang dapat dihapus hak pilihnya hanya karena alasan menjadi anggota TNI dan POLRI, dititik inilah hak asasi manusia hadir memenuhi martabat manusia agar memperoleh kesetaraan politik setelah mendapatkan pengakuan konstitusi dan beberapa konvenan internasional. Negara perlu mengambil langkah agar segera memulihkan hak pilih TNI dan POLRI, prinsipnya TNI dan POLRI adalah warga negara yang statusnya sama dengan rakyat sipil. Pemilu tidak milik kalangan hak masyarakat sipil saja, melainkan juga milik semua rakyat kendati kapasitasnya kebetulan menjadi anggota TNI dan POLRI, berdasarkan prinsip kedaulatan rakyat yang tercantum dalam UUD 1945 menyiratkan setiap warga negara berhak ikut berpartisipasi dalam Pemilu.
