Elisabeth Von Samsonow: Transplants
Austrian artist and philosopher Elizabeth von Samsonow's (born 1956) figurative wood sculptures are carved from tree trunks and painted, giving the impression of being witnesses from an unknown culture. This volume assembles her newly created groups of sculptures of recent years.

This catalogue, published by Niederösterreichische Landesgalerie in cooperation with Zuecca Projects and The PhotoPhore, Venice, documents, comments on and compresses the performance project THE PARENTS' BEDROOM SHOW by Elisabeth von Samsonow, which was captured on film in 62 photographs by Juergen Teller.This specific constellation consisting of a performance, photography and an artistically modified documentary (which takes the form of film stills in the catalogue) indicates a path to the understanding of cross-media relationships in contemporary art.The content of the performance, the (fictitious) primal scene, i.e. the coitus of the parents, is reinterpreted in the context of the more recent usage of the term, i.e. to represent the most important scene in a film (or a life), which organizes everything else.Accompanies the exhibition 'Elisabeth von Samsonow & Juergen Teller: THE PARENTS' BEDROOM SHOW', 9 May - 31 Jul 2019, Spazio Ridotto, Venice.Design by Renate Stockreiter, Christoph Fuchs.

Anti-Electra
A close examination of the relationship between media, art, and the “Electra complex” The feminist counterpart to Deleuze and Guattari’s Anti-Oedipus, Anti-Electra is a philosophy of “the girl” as a model of contemporary transgressive subjectivity. Elisabeth von Samsonow asserts that focusing on the girl’s escape from the Oedipus complex leads to a fundamental shift in our most common views on media and art. Presenting an interpretation of contemporary technics, Anti-Electra argues that technology today encompasses Electra’s gadgets and toys. According to von Samsonow, satellite drive technologies such as wireless telephones, WLAN, and GPS echo the “preoedipal constellation” that the girl specializes in. And with the help of the girl, the cartography of overlapping zones between humankind and animals, as well as between humankind and apparatuses, is redesigned through what the book holds as a “radical totemism.” Anti-Electra ultimately offers a new view on gender, the contemporary world dyed by symbolic girlism, and the (universal) girl in critical dialogue with media, ecology, and society.

Bertlmann's work is frequently associated with the term feminist avant-garde and focuses on the kind of art that questions gender-specific role models and stereotypes.Such patterns are contrasted with the ironic, self-reflective and spiritual aspect of her oeuvre. 'Amo ergo sum' (I love, therefore I am) is Bertlmann's central message, developed in 1978, which, since the 1980s, has been subdivided into the topics pornography, irony, and utopia.The exhibition at Landesgalerie Niederösterreich is this great artist's first solo show at a museum. Elisabeth von Samsonow zeigt in einer breit angelegten Analyse, dass und wie Schiele sich selbst zwischen 1910 und 1918 immer wieder als "Avatar" des heiligen Franziskus darstellt, in welchem er den Experten für die "anderen Zustände" erkennt – für das Empfangen der Stigmata, für Hypnose, Agonie und Ekstase. Epidemic Subjects - Radical Ontology
This book places itself at an epochal rift that is marked by a large-scale change within the concept of subjectivity, succinctly put: its implosion, revision and re-invention. It is a crisis of subjectivity that is also a crisis of sovereignty, collectivity, identity, nationality. Yet alongside the total dissolution of any authoritative legitimation of identity, knowledge and power given by philosophy, a vacuum emerges where new conceptions of subjectivity can evolve.
