El volumen recoge las contribuciones presentadas al Simposio Cien años de Platero y yo (1914-2014), celebrado en 2014 en Moguer, Huelva y La Rábida. Por tratarse de una obra que ha trascendido su carácter de texto literario para convertirse en fenómeno social, cultural y educativo de resonancia universal, los trabajos abordan un amplio repertorio de temas y ofrecen nuevas perspectivas sobre un libro clásico, pero no siempre bien leído. El trasfondo histórico y biográfico de los personajes mencionados en la obra, el coleccionismo del que han sido objeto sus distintas ediciones, la presencia en la enseñanza y en la literatura infantil, el contexto ideológico en el que el libro se gestó, su papel en la trayectoria literaria de Juan Ramón o su difusión y recepción en otras lenguas, son algunos de los temas tratados en los distintos trabajos, a los que se añaden otros que abordan el estudio específicamente literario o estilístico de Platero y yo.
