"The purpose of this conference was to bridge the gap between the applied problem solvers and the fundamentals research groups. By bringing together academic, government, and industrial practitioners in rheology, the conference informed research workers of the engineering problems requiring solutions and vis-a-vis informed the applied problem solvers of the newest fundamental knowledge. Most subjects of current rheological concern were discussed including: constructive equations; rheological measurements; rheological properties as related to sub-structure, e.g., solutions, melts, slurries, emulsions, suspensions and composites; stratified and disperse flow of two-phase melts in extruders; pipelines and porous media; strain induced crystallization; phase transformation during orientation; uniaxial and multiaxial stretching; stability of extrusion and spinning systems; droplet break-up; entrance and exit flows; petroleum recovery problems; and the effect of economics, political considerations and raw materials on the future of the polymer industry.
