Bei der Werkgruppe der Performativen Skulpturen attackiert Wurm Modelle oder rohe Blöcke aus Ton mit Körperkraft und teilweise auch mit Hilfsmitteln. Im Anschluss gießt er die deformierten Modelle häufig in Bronze, Alu- minium, Eisen oder Kunstharz ab, überzieht sie mit Farbe oder patiniert sie. Es entsteht ein spannungsgeladener Dialog zwischen der Urform des Materials und den Spuren des performativen Eingriffs. Der Körper wird dabei zum Material und Medium von Handlungsvollzügen.0Mit den Performativen Skulpturen begann Wurm bereits Anfang der 1990er-Jahre eine gänzlich neue Form des künstlerischen Ausdrucks zu entwickeln. Im 21er Haus wird dieser Werkblock nun erstmals umfassend präsentiert. Ein Großteil der 54 ausgestellten performativen Skulpturen und Plastiken ist eigens für diese Schau entstanden. Erwin Wurm draws almost every day, be it when he is at home or on the road. He works with easily available paper in various qualities and formats.Peace & Plenty, also the name of the hotel on the Bahamas where many of the drawings were done, refers both to the situation and to the sheer amount of the drawings. 447 works on paper, in pencil, crayon, ballpoint-pen or as watercolors and collages, are reflections, commentaries on the world, storehouses of ideas.Thematically, they resemble a diary, given that people turn up in them with whom Erwin Wurm is in contact, artist-friends, family, but also self-portraits and current projects, be that ideas for One Minute Sculptures or drawings of caravans and trucks for his project for the 2017 Venice Biennale.No text.Published alongside shows at Kunstmuseum Luzern, (9 June - 23 September 2018) and Albertinal, Vienna (21 November 2018 - 31 January 2019).

This book presents the most recent and hugely popular work of the Viennese artist Erwin Wurm, who is known for his quirky and compelling art. Erwin Wurm's works occupy a special place in contemporary art. Since the late 1980s he has explored the boundaries between sculpture, object, and performance. His works have great visual power, are readily accessible, yet raise existential questions. The One Minute Sculptures, produced since 1995, invite the viewer's collaboration. With everyday objects like tennis balls, chairs, or cleaning-agent bottles one is meant to assume unusual, bizarre poses and, if following the artist's instructions precisely, become, for a moment, a living sculpture. The artist's instructions take the form of delicate and humorous drawings that are published for the first time in this book. With illustrations of Wurm's newest sculptural works, the most recent developments in his oeuvre are also highlighted. The roughly 100 large-format illustrations are supplemented by three essays dealing with the most important issues in Erwin Wurm's work.
