Spectral Approach to Transport Problems in Two-Dimensional Disordered Lattices

This book introduces the spectral approach to transport problems in infinite disordered systems characterized by Anderson-type Hamiltonians. The spectral approach determines (with probability one) the existence of extended states for nonzero disorder in infinite lattices of any dimension and geometry. Here, the author focuses on the critical 2D case, where previous numerical and experimental results have shown disagreement with theory. Not being based on scaling theory, the proposed method avoids issues related to boundary conditions and provides an alternative approach to transport problems where interaction with various types of disorder is considered. Beginning with a general overview of ...

Nonlocal Diffusion and Applications

  • Publisher: Springer

Working in the fractional Laplace framework, this book provides models and theorems related to nonlocal diffusion phenomena. In addition to a simple probabilistic interpretation, some applications to water waves, crystal dislocations, nonlocal phase transitions, nonlocal minimal surfaces and Schrödinger equations are given. Furthermore, an example of an s-harmonic function, its harmonic extension and some insight into a fractional version of a classical conjecture due to De Giorgi are presented. Although the aim is primarily to gather some introductory material concerning applications of the fractional Laplacian, some of the proofs and results are new. The work is entirely self-contained, and readers who wish to pursue related subjects of interest are invited to consult the rich bibliography for guidance.

Recent Contributions to Bioinformatics and Biomedical Sciences and Engineering

This book presents a collection of high-quality research papers, presented at the Second International Symposium on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (BioInfoMed’2022). It offers a comprehensive look into some of the fastest growing fields of science, such as biomedicine, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and mathematical modeling. The different chapters of the work include both practical solutions and strictly scientific considerations expanding knowledge about the future bioinformatics and biomedical engineering challenges. We believe that the presented works will have a great impact not only on the development and the application of new methods for modeling, decision making and data mining in healthcare and biomedicine, but also it will provide a source of inspiration for researchers who can implement the proposed methods into their practice and scientific studies.

The fractional Laplacian, also called the Riesz fractional derivative, describes an unusual diffusion process associated with random excursions. The Fractional Laplacian explores applications of the fractional Laplacian in science, engineering, and other areas where long-range interactions and conceptual or physical particle jumps resulting in an irregular diffusive or conductive flux are encountered. Presents the material at a level suitable for a broad audience of scientists and engineers with rudimentary background in ordinary differential equations and integral calculus Clarifies the concept of the fractional Laplacian for functions in one, two, three, or an arbitrary number of dimension...

Advances in Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation

This book represents the experience of successful researchers from four continents on a broad range of intelligent systems, and it hints how to avoid anticipated conflicts and problems during multidisciplinary innovative research from Industry 4.0 and/or Internet of Things through modern machine learning, and software agent applications to open data science big data/advance analytics/visual analytics/text mining/web mining/knowledge discovery/deep data mining issues. The considered intelligent part is essential in most smart/control systems, cyber security, bioinformatics, virtual reality, robotics, mathematical modelling projects, and its significance rapidly increases in other technologies. Theoretical foundations of fuzzy sets, mathematical and non-classical logic also are rapidly developing.

Differential Calculus on Normed Spaces

This classic and long out of print text by the famous French mathematician Henri Cartan, has finally been retitled and reissued as an unabridged reprint of the Kershaw Publishing Company 1971 edition at remarkably low price for a new generation of university students and teachers. It provides a concise and beautifully written course on rigorous analysis. Unlike most similar texts, which usually develop the theory in either metric or Euclidean spaces, Cartan's text is set entirely in normed vector spaces, particularly Banach spaces. This not only allows the author to develop carefully the concepts of calculus in a setting of maximal generality, it allows him to unify both single and multivari...

Generalized Nets

The Generalized Nets (GNs) are extensions of Petri nets and of different Petri nets modifications, introduced by the author (1982). In the book, definitions and the basic properties of GNs are given. The GNs extensions and reductions are discussed. GNs, which describe the functioning and results of the work of different types of petri nets, different types of finite automata and of Turing machines, are given. Over the GNs are defined different operations, relations and operators. They can also be transferred onto other nets. Many open problems in the GNs theory are given.

This book presents the very concept of an index matrix and its related augmented matrix calculus in a comprehensive form. It mostly illustrates the exposition with examples related to the generalized nets and intuitionistic fuzzy sets which are examples of an extremely wide array of possible application areas. The present book contains the basic results of the author over index matrices and some of its open problems with the aim to stimulating more researchers to start working in this area.

In this wise and provocative book, Emily Mathews grounds her intelligent policy philosophy in common sense, which is particularly refreshing as our political structure grows increasingly dysfunctional. At a time in our nation's history when the only focus should be the shared goal of productive progress, the author shows why we are in a political standoff that stifles all desire for compromise, represses productive political conversation and prevents our country from being the very best it can be. Ms. Mathews' innovative thought process collides with her talent for entertaining storytelling. The result is a book you cannot put down. Born and raised in Jasper, Texas, Emily returned to her chi...
