This book constitutes the proceedings of the First International Conference on Innovative Computing Technology, INCT 2011, held in Tehran, Iran, in December 2011. The 40 revised papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 121 submissions. The contributions are organized in topical sections on software; Web services and service architecture; computational intelligence; data modeling; multimedia and image segmentation; natural language processing; networks; cluster computing; and discrete systems.
Genetics is the study of inheritance, the process by which traits are passed from parents to offspring. It is one of the most influential scientific fields, as it has opened new ways of understanding the mechanisms of inheritance, which can be applied to many areas of biology. This introduction will provide a brief overview of genetics, the history of the field, and the many applications it has in biotechnology and medicine.
There is no right way or best way to give birth, but if you’re pregnant, you’re likely already hearing advice and stories about what you should do, how you should feel, and what you should want from your birth experience. Your Birth Plan is an intervention: it’s a birth book that equally honors all paths and all pregnant people, guiding and empowering you to make informed decisions, without judgment or prescription, for your own positive birth experience. Long on information, short on opinions, Your Birth Plan is a how-to guide filled with practical descriptions, insights, stories and tips to make it easier for you to pick where, with whom, and in what way you would like to give birth. Your Birth Plan is comprehensive and free from judgment and prescriptions. It offers unbiased information about all birthing options, including birthing in a hospital, at home, or in a birthing center; having an epidural or an unmedicated birth; induction of labor; vaginal or Cesarean birth; and more. This is a new, inspiring, inclusive, and much-needed guide to help you plan for a birth where you are empowered to make your own choices and to have your needs met, whatever they are.

This book aims to serve the critical interests of the global community by supplying the most current knowledge and understanding of Covid-19 epidemiology, treatment, and prognoses. There was much uncertain and contradictory information published in the first year of the novel coronavirus. The dynamics of COVID-19 have now been realized, including the type of antibodies produced in infected patients and their limited lasting endurance. This book will set the record straight on the concept of “herd immunity” and explore the current vaccine trials taking place in different countries. This comprehensive book will illuminate recent advances regarding COVID-19 and offer a possible roadmap on how to move forward. Frontiers of COVID-19: A Pathophysiology and Epidemiology Roadmap of Novel Coronavirus Disease will be a vital and forward-looking guide for infectious disease clinicians, scientists and researchers, and students at the graduate level.
Over the last few years, new high-throughput biotechnologies are revolutionizing our ways to utilize human biospecimens for understanding atherosclerotic disease. These recent advances allow deep profiling of individual cells at the genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics and proteomics levels, or even simultaneous detection of various combinations of ‘Omics’ in the same cell. Additionally, novel methods to integrate data at different levels from tissue sections and dissociated tissues are the emerging trends in large and institutional biobank studies. Growing literature has shown the value of such sequencing and bioinformatic strategies in shedding light on (1) how risk genes, as identified by the Genome-Wide Association Study, contribute to atherogenesis (genotype to phenotype), and (2) how features of atherosclerotic lesions affect patient response in clinical trials (phenotype to the clinical outcome). The hybrid of cutting-edge biotechnologies and bioinformatic approaches helps us maximize biobank resources to accelerate bench-to-bedside research.
This book contains select chapters on support vector algorithms from different perspectives, including mathematical background, properties of various kernel functions, and several applications. The main focus of this book is on orthogonal kernel functions, and the properties of the classical kernel functions—Chebyshev, Legendre, Gegenbauer, and Jacobi—are reviewed in some chapters. Moreover, the fractional form of these kernel functions is introduced in the same chapters, and for ease of use for these kernel functions, a tutorial on a Python package named ORSVM is presented. The book also exhibits a variety of applications for support vector algorithms, and in addition to the classificat...
This work presents thoughts on the Lacanian subject: What are we as a speaking being? What makes us a human subject from a psychoanalytic perspective? Is it feelings and affect that make us a human? Or was it the Freudian invention of the unconscious that drew a line between human and a non-human? What can be learnt from the subject of the unconscious in the clinic of psychoanalysis that can help us to approach these questions? Berjanet Jazani takes examples from the psychoanalytic clinic as well as cultural references ranging from ancient Persia to London’s Theatreland in order to elaborate the question of subjectivity, reality and truth from a psychoanalytic perspective. In the era of hy...
