François-Xavier Gautrelet, né le 15 février 1807 à Sampigny (Saône-et-Loire, France) et mort le 4 juillet 1886 à Montbrison (Loire, France), est un prêtre jésuite français et auteur populaire d'ouvrages spirituels. Dans sa Lettre Encyclique Divinum illud munus, le Pape Léon XIII recommande aux prédicateurs et à ceux qui ont charge d'âmes, de déployer un plus grand zèle pour la diffusion du culte au Saint-Esprit. Le Souverain Pontife désire ardemment que le peuple chrétien soit bien instruit par rapport aux grâces diverses et aux nombreux bienfaits dont il est redevable au Saint-Esprit; car l'ignorance en cette matière serait indigne des enfants de la lumière. Cette présente édition du R.P. François-Xavier alimente spirituellement cette dévotion au Saint-Esprit qui incombe à tous chrétiens. Elle se découpe en trois parties: d'abord un portrait de l'adorable Personne du Saint-Esprit, puis un développement sur les sept dons du Saint-Esprit, avant de finir avec une description des dix fruits du Saint-Esprit.
