The collection consists of correspondence and photographs created while Sanderson served in the United States (U.S.) Army Air Forces during World War II. The correspondence is comprised of letters from Sanderson to Lorraine B. Hook regarding his bombardier training in Texas and his service in England. One letter from Hook to Sanderson was returned to her due to his death. Additionally, there is a single letter from Sanderson's sister, Ethel, to Hook regarding Sanderson's death. The photographs include two portraits of Sanderson in uniform and one of Hook observing students at Camp Pickett, Virginia.
