Popular Culture and Subcultures of Czech Post-Socialism
This book draws on wide range of inspirations to provide a well-balanced picture of the popular culture and subcultures of Czech post-socialism. What were the continuities and discontinuities of the post-socialist popular culture, mentalities and society during the period of late state socialism? What were the different mechanisms of ‘creating the Other’ in popular culture and subcultures? This volume shows the diverse trajectories of the late socialist (and older national) cultural practices and the related set of values and beliefs in new transitory circumstances. Whereas many scholars emphasize the tendency to sustain in a more or less adapted form under the new circumstances, the chapters and case studies of this book demonstrate a slightly different, more nuanced development.

První ředitel Národního divadla František Adolf Šubert (1849–1915), člověk mimořádně aktivní a zasloužilý hned v několika ohledech, dosud neměl žádnou vydanou monografii. Zpřístupněním zrevidovaného rukopisu z pera novináře, uměleckého kritika a literárního historika Antonína Veselého (1888–1945) o F. A. Šubrtovi jako dramatikovi splácíme část dluhu českého kulturního dějepisectví vůči této velké, zakladatelské a málem již polozapomenuté osobnosti. Autor a v jeho stopě editor publikace sledují Šubrta v celém vývoji jeho dramatické tvorby, v minulosti neprávem podceňované, od studentských počátků přes složité překonávání romantické estetiky a soudobých vlivů francouzských až po několik závažných pokusů o soudobé realistické drama, které plnily aktuální průkopnickou úlohu v české dramatické produkci. Jejich závažnost autor dokazuje přesvědčivě, na základě důkladného pramenného studia a v širším kulturním a politickém kontextu.
History of Czechs in America
This valuable resource book was written by Dr. Jan Habenicht of Chicago and published by the Hlas Publishing company of St. Louis in 1910. The research of Dr. Habenicht included extensive travel across the entire United States and writing thousands of letters. It was translated into English by Miroslav Koudelka, a member of CGSI, and edited and arranged by Paul M. Makousky, Publication Chair of CGSI. The book has 595 pages (8 1/2" x 11"), is bound by a hardcover and features a beautifully finished metallic blue and white jacket containing a photograph of the Dvorak family in the raspberry field in Minnetonka Township, Minnesota on the front and the Vasko family on their farm near Sun Prairie...

Czech American Bibliography
This is a comprehensive bibliography of publications relating to Czechs in America, from the earliest time since the discovery of the New World to date, covering their settlement, community life and their contributions to their host country. Although emphasis is on English titles, including books, as well as articles, the relevant titles in Czech language have also been included, particularly in those areas where there is a paucity of English titles. English translations of the Czech titles were normally placed in parentheses. To assure maximum utility, the bibliography has been organized and classified into specific sectors by subject. Under most major headings, general surveys are listed first, followed by more specific categories, which have, in turn, been subdivided into subcategories. Individual entries in all sections are arranged chronologically. Under most subject areas separate biographical sections were added, comprising individuals of note in the respective fields. Apart from providing information on just about every aspect of human endeavor, it is hoped that it will induce serious students and scholars to do more work in areas that have not been adequately researched.
