Time-Frequency Analysis

Covering a period of about 25 years, during which time-frequency has undergone significant developments, this book is principally addressed to researchers and engineers interested in non-stationary signal analysis and processing. It is written by recognized experts in the field.

The Governance of Network Industries

The Governance of Network Industries

This book addresses critical issues in the governance of network industries in terms of institutional design, technology and policy. Infrastructures are subject to substantial readjustments of governance structures, often labeled as liberalization, privatization or reregulation. This affects all traditional infrastructure sectors including communications, energy, transport and water. This volume highlights and illustrates some of the major challenges for readjusting the governance of network industries from an economic, institutional, political and technological perspective. The three parts of the book address the institutional design of infrastructures, the role of technology in different sectors, and actor behavior. Adopting a multidisciplinary perspective, this book will appeal to economists and political scientists with an interest in the management of network industries. It will also be of great value to policy-makers and regulators in the field.

Signal Processing with Free Software

An ideal resource for students, industrial engineers, and researchers, Signal Processing with Free Software Practical Experiments presents practical experiments in signal processing using free software. The text introduces elementary signals through elementary waveform, signal storage files and elementary operations on signals and then presents the first tools to signal analysis such as temporal and frequency characteristics leading to Time-frequency analysis. Non-parametric spectral analysis is also discussed as well as signal processing through sampling, resampling, quantification, and analog and digital filtering. Table of Contents: 1. Generation of Elementary Signals. Generation of Elementary Waveform. – Elementary Operations on the Signals. – Format of Signal Storage Files. 2. First tools of Signal Analysis. Measurement of Temporal and Frequency Characteristics of a Signal. Time-Frequency Analysis of a Signal. 3. Non-parametric Spectral Analysis. 4. Signal Processing. Sampling. – Resampling. – Quantification. – “Analog” Filtering. Digital Filtering

The book aims to highlight the potential of deep learning (DL)-enabled methods in intelligent fault diagnosis (IFD), along with their benefits and contributions. The authors first introduce basic applications of DL-enabled IFD, including auto-encoders, deep belief networks, and convolutional neural networks. Advanced topics of DL-enabled IFD are also explored, such as data augmentation, multi-sensor fusion, unsupervised deep transfer learning, neural architecture search, self-supervised learning, and reinforcement learning. Aiming to revolutionize the nature of IFD, Deep Neural Networks-Enabled Intelligent Fault Diangosis of Mechanical Systems contributes to improved efficiency, safety, and reliability of mechanical systems in various industrial domains. The book will appeal to academic researchers, practitioners, and students in the fields of intelligent fault diagnosis, prognostics and health management, and deep learning.

Privatization and Its Discontents

  • Categories: Law

In Privatization and Its Discontents, Matthew Titolo situates the contemporary debate over infrastructure in the long history of public–private governance in the United States. Titolo begins with Adam Smith's arguments about public works and explores debates over internal improvements in the early republic, moving to the twentieth-century regulatory state and public-interest liberalism that created vast infrastructure programs. While Americans have always agreed that creation and oversight of 'infrastructure' is a proper public function, Titolo demonstrates that public–private governance has been a highly contested practice throughout American history. Public goods are typically provided with both government and private actors involved, resulting in an ideological battle over the proper scope of the government sphere and its relationship to private interests. The course of that debate reveals that 'public' and 'private' have no inherent or natural content. These concepts are instead necessarily political and must be set through socially negotiated compromise.

The Orders of the Dreamed

The introduction by Brown and Brightman describes Nelson's career in the fur trade and explains the influences affecting his perception and understanding of Native religions. They also provide a comparative summary of Subarctic Algonquian religion, with emphasis on the beliefs and practices described by Nelson. Stan Cuthand, a Cree Anglican minister, author, and language instructor, who lived in Lac la Ronge in the 1940s, adds a commentary relating Nelson's writing to his own knowledge of Cree religion in Saskatchewan. Emma LaRoque, an author and instructor in Native Studies, presents a Native scholar's perspective on the ethics of publishing historical documents.

The principles of signal processing are using widely in telecommunications, control systems, sensors, smartphones, tablets, TV, video- and photo-cameras, computers, audio systems, etc. Written by 43 experienced and well-respected experts from universities, research centres and industry from 14 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Ecuador, France, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, UK, Ukraine and USA the 'Advances is Signal Processing: Reviews', Vol. 1, Book Series, contains 13 chapters from the signals and systems theory to real-world applications. The authors discuss existing issues and ways to overcome these problems as well as the new challenges arising in the field. The book concludes with methods for the efficient implementation of algorithms in hardware and software. The advantages and disadvantages of different approaches are presented in the context of practical examples.

Networks of Global Governance

Including several contributions from an international group of historians and experts of international relations, this book analyses the relationship between the United Nations and European integration. The book, which covers from 1945 to the present, is organised into three sections, each dedicated to a different phase of the integration process, during which EU-UN relations had a different character. The essays of the first section deal with the 1950s and 1960s and show the active part played by UN bodies in shaping the integration process. In the second part, covering the 1970s and 1980s, it is the European Community which is shown to have had a visible impact on the life and the decision...
