Language Production: First International Workshop on Language Production

This special issue presents an overview of recent research conducted in the field of language production. Its articles are based on talks presented at the first edition of the International Workshop on Language Production (Marseille, France, September 2004). The articles in the special issue deal with three different topics of general interest for models of language production: A. the general organizational principles of the language production system (representations, spread of activation, monitoring), B. several aspects of the lexical selection process and C. the representations and processes used during syntactic encoding.

The Neurocognition of Language Production

Over the last decades neuroscience has passed beyond mere “phrenology” and “erpology” and has become an important tool for investigating the spatial, temporal and functional brain dynamics underlying human behavior. In this Special Issue we would like to give a broad overview of recent significant contributions that neuroscientific research has provided to one of the most practiced psychomotor skills unique to humans, namely language production. Physiological studies in language production have not been as extensive compared to many other areas of human cognition and have just currently begun to generate important evidence for uncovering the cognitive mechanisms behind our ability to...

Language Production: Second International Workshop on Language Production

This special issue on language production is based on a selection of contributions to the Second International Workshop on Language Production held in August 2005 in Maastricht. The volume is an overview of new directions within language production research and includes papers on word selection and its modelling, the production of pauses in sentence production, the interaction between spontaneous gestures and speech, and changes in language production behaviour in ageing.

Current Perspectives in Spanish Lexical Development

New quantitative methodology and the development of corpus and experimental linguistics tools have recently made researching lexical comprehension and production more accessible. While several tools and data sets are available in English (Coh-metrix, CELEX) and a few other languages, the development of resources and empirical research is still lacking in Spanish. This volume brings together original empirical research and theoretical perspectives that examine lexical development in Spanish L1, L2 and L3, with a focus on different teaching approaches and textbook coverage of Spanish lexicon in L2 curricula and the use of corpus linguistics in methodological investigations. Some questions addr...
