Correspondence from Karl Friedrich Philipp von Martius to John Torrey, dated 1839. Martius' letter functions partly as a letter of introduction for a young Dr. Lilienthal, and partly as correspondence. He apologizes profusely for allowing their correspondence to lapse-- due to his professorship and his work on Brazilian plants-- and encloses two articles and a copy of his work "Nova genera et species plantarum" for the Lyceum of Natural History in New York.
