Relying on multiple eye witness accounts and thorough research in French, American and Rsistance archives, the author describes in Part I, hour by hour, the massacre on June 10, 1944, by the Waffen-SS Division Das Reich, of 642 men, women and children in the village of Oradour-sur-Glane and the destruction of the village.. Who ordered the massacre? Why ? The book puts the tragedy in the context of the D-Day Landing and the period that precedes it. Part II is devoted to the conduct of the trial nearly nine years later. Adaptive Cooperation between Driver and Assistant System
One of the next challenges in vehicular technology field is to improve drastically the road safety. Current developments are focusing on both vehicle platform and diverse assistance systems. This book presents a new engineering approach based on lean vehicle architecture ready for the drive-by-wire technology. Based on a cognitive functionality split, execution and command levels are detailed. The execution level centralized over the stability control performs the motion vector coming from the command level. At this level the driver generates a motion vector which is continuously monitored by a virtual co-pilot. The integration of assistance systems in a safety relevant multi-agent system is presented here to provide first an adequate feedback to the driver to let him recover a dangerous situation. Robust strategies are also presented for the intervention phase once the command vehicle has to be optimized to stay within the safety envelope.

Electric Vehicle Systems Architecture and Standardization Needs
This edited volume presents research results of the PPP European Green Vehicle Initiative (EGVI), focusing on Electric Vehicle Systems Architecture and Standardization Needs. The objectives of energy efficiency and zero emissions in road transportation imply a paradigm shift in the concept of the automobile regarding design, materials, and propulsion technology. A redesign of the electric and electronic architecture provides in many aspects additional potential for reaching these goals. At the same time, standardization within a broad range of features, components and systems is a key enabling factor for a successful market entry of the electric vehicle (EV). It would lower production cost, increase interoperability and compatibilities, and sustain market penetration. Hence, novel architectures and testing concepts and standardization approaches for the EV have been the topic of an expert workshop of the European Green Vehicles Initiative PPP. This book contains the contributions of current European research projects on EV architecture and an expert view on the status of EV standardization. The target audience primarily comprises researchers and experts in the field.
The Hafle, Hoefle or Höfle Family from Schwieberdingen, Germany
The Hofle family story begins 1540 in Sersheim, Germany and continues through 14 generations and 5 separate immigrations from Schwieberdingen to America. The first and second groups of immigrants became the Hafle family in Ohio and the Hoefle family in New York respectively. These 2 families were reconnected after 150 years by this research.
