Post-Concussion Syndrome

This book surveys the research on this disorder. Most people recover completely following concussion, also known as mild traumatic brain injury, but some continue to have post-concussion syndrome symptoms for months or even years after the injury. This book explores the definition, genesis, assessment, diagnosis, recovery, and treatment of post-concussion syndrome.

Novel Methods in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry of Muscle

Experimental techniques are the life blood of science. The better the methodology is, the more reliable and accurate the results will be. Ultimately, this will lead to a clearer interpretation of those results and firmer conclusions from any set of experiments. Experimental methodology in the area of cardiovascular biochemistry and molecular biology has advanced considerably in the last decade. Because of these factors, it was thought that a focused issue of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry dedicated to the novel, latest technological advances in the field was warranted. We must thank Dr Naranjan S. Dhalla, Editor-in-Chief of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, for his willingness to pub...

Chemotherapy

The International Society of Chemotherapy meets every two years to review progress in chemotherapy of infections and of malignant disease. Each meeting gets larger to encompass the extension of chemotherapy into new areas. In some instances, exp~sion has been rapid, for example in cephalosporins, pen icillins and combination chemotherapy of cancer - in others slow, as in the field of parasitology. New problems of resistance and untoward effects arise; reduction of host toxicity without loss of antitumour activity by new substances occupies wide attention. The improved results with cancer chemotherapy, es pecially in leukaemias, are leading to a greater prevalence of severe infection in patie...

The Chemistry of Antitumour Agents

Walter C. J. ROSS Emeritus Professor, University of London To paraphrase a statement made by Howard E. Skipper many years ago, 'We cancer chemotherapists have often exploited and overworked our chemist colleagues and they have been conveniently forgotten at award giving times'. This book is an attempt to rectify this and highlight the contribution of the chemist in modifying the structure of various types of agent to enhance their effectiveness as inhibitors of the growth of neoplastic tissues. Cancer chemotherapy is a relatively new discipline, coming later than the introduction of sulphonamides and antibiotics. Modern anti-cancer therapy started with the report of the use of a war gas meth...

Taurine 2

This volume comprises the edited proceedings of the International Taurine Sympo sium held in Osaka, Japan, in June 1995, as a Satellite Symposium of the 15th Biennial of the International Society for Neurochemistry. This Taurine Symposium was the Meeting latest in a series held since 1975 at approximately two-year intervals by an informal group of international researchers. It attracted contributions from 20 countries, ranging from Armenia via Finland and Spain to the United States. Some 121 participants attended. The Symposium was organized and chaired by Junichi Azuma, University of Osaka. Other members of the Organizing Committee in Japan consisted of Kinya Kuriyama and Masao Nakagawa, bo...
