Partnership Working in Public Health
The United Kingdom’s reforms of the National Health Service and public health system now require a strong focus on partnerships, a move that has largely been met with praise. But a growing body of evidence shows that such partnerships are in fact very difficult to achieve and make effective. The Government's vision for a future Public Health service is set out in this publication. Communities will play a key role in the new system, which will have a clear focus on prevention and reducing inequalities and will work across Government to address the wider social determinants of health. Part of developing this new system will entail clarifying the new leadership role for local authorities and their directors of public health, across health improvement, health protection and population health advice to the NHS.
