The Gauntlet

A trio of friends from New York City find themselves trapped inside a mechanical board game that they must dismantle in order to save themselves and generations of other children in this action-packed debut that’s a steampunk Jumanji with a Middle Eastern flair. Nothing can prepare you for The Gauntlet… It didn’t look dangerous, exactly. When twelve-year-old Farah first laid eyes on the old-fashioned board game, she thought it looked…elegant. It is made of wood, etched with exquisite images—a palace with domes and turrets, lattice-work windows that cast eerie shadows, a large spider—and at the very center of its cover, in broad letters, is written: The Gauntlet of Blood and Sand. The Gauntlet is more than a game, though. It is the most ancient, the most dangerous kind of magic. It holds worlds inside worlds. And it takes players as prisoners.

Power Gauntlet: Pen & Paper Battle Game

About The Game || Power Gauntlet is a two player game played with paper and pencil, where you and your friends battle with powerful four-armed minions, empowered by mystical gauntlets! Each player selects one minion from the Underworld to command in battle, and four Power Gauntlets to store in their armory. Each player starts with four health points and each minion starts with 1000 power. A minion can only attack if their power is greater than or equal to the power of their opponent's minion. Whenever a player's minion attacks, their opponent loses 1 health point. The first player to lose all their health points loses the game. Each minion and gauntlet has its own unique special ability. Players must take advantage of both their minion's and gauntlets' special abilities, to try and overpower their opponent's minion and become the last one standing! This guidebook goes over the rules on how to play Power Gauntlet with your friends. This book also includes a list of unique minions, power gauntlets and their special abilities that can be used in the game.

Essays discuss the terminology, etymology, and history of key terms, offering a foundation for critical historical studies of games. Even as the field of game studies has flourished, critical historical studies of games have lagged behind other areas of research. Histories have generally been fact-by-fact chronicles; fundamental terms of game design and development, technology, and play have rarely been examined in the context of their historical, etymological, and conceptual underpinnings. This volume attempts to “debug” the flawed historiography of video games. It offers original essays on key concepts in game studies, arranged as in a lexicon—from “Amusement Arcade” to “Embodi...

The fourth book in Chris Scullion’s critically acclaimed series of video game encyclopedias, The N64 Encyclopedia is dedicated to the Nintendo 64, one of the most well-loved games consoles ever released. Although the Nintendo 64 didn’t sell as well as some of Nintendo’s other systems, and it struggled in the shadow of the bold newcomer that was the Sony PlayStation, nearly everyone who owned an N64 was in love with it and the four-player multiplayer it provided as standard. Despite its relatively small library, the Nintendo 64 had a healthy number of groundbreaking titles that would revolutionize the way we play video games. The likes of Super Mario 64, GoldenEye 007, Mario Ka...
