This Research Topic is the next volume in the series (see the previous volume here). At present, fewer than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular. Science and gender equality are, however, essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO. In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.
Throughout history, adoption has brought so much joy to couples who are biologically unable to have children yet still desire to raise a child and start a family. Same-sex couples are no exception to how any of this works: As a couple, the bond between you and your partner will grow stronger as you fulfill your responsibilities as parents. And as an individual, having a child will change you in ways that you couldn't have imagined. By loving another person unconditionally, you will mature into a better version of yourself. If you and your same-sex partner are thinking of adopting a child to complete your family, this guide is for you. Although the process is virtually the same as any other adoption, this book was written with the same-sex couple in mind. You will learn the different ways to adopt a child, as well as get special tips on same-sex parenting and the occasional challenges that you may encounter.
Advances in Immunology, a long-established and highly respected publication, presents current developments as well as comprehensive reviews in immunology. Articles address the wide range of topics that comprise immunology, including molecular and cellular activation mechanisms, phylogeny and molecular evolution, and clinical modalities. Edited and authored by the foremost scientists in the field, each volume provides up-to-date information and directions for the future. This volume focuses on regulatory T-cells. - Contributions from leading authorities and industry experts - Informs and updates on all the latest developments in the field
This book presents the state of the art in cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating the immune response in allergic inflammation. Special attention is given to the central role of regulatory T cells (Treg) in immune regulation and induction of peripheral tolerance, as well as to the relevance of Th17 cells in chronic inflammation. The importance of Treg and Th17 cells is demonstrated in bronchial asthma, atopic eczema, contact dermatitis and delayed-type hypersensitivity. Furthermore, T-cell-mediated regulatory mechanisms in helminthic infections and fungal allergy are discussed. Several chapters are devoted to the therapeutic consequences that these recently discovered T-cell functions ...
The Endometrium is devoted to a comprehensive multi-disciplinary account of the uterine endometrium. This book is the first to define the regulatory biological interrelationships between epithelial and stromal cell phenotypes, endothelial cells, extracellular matrix and immunobiological elements. It highlights their relevance to clinical conditions
T cells belong to a group of white blood cells called lymphocytes and play a large role in the immune response. An increased understanding of T cell immunity will provide new insights into the etiology of human autoimmune disease such as diabetes. This volume reviews the latest developments and discusses the evolution of T cell immunity, thymic requirements, and how to prevent T cell-dependent autoimmunity. - Discusses new discoveries, approaches, and ideas in T cell immunity - Contributions from leading scholars and industry experts - Reference guide for researchers involved in molecular biology and related fields
Covering one of the hottest topics in immunology today, this book provides a comprehensive view of all types of regulatory T cells described so far in the literature. The book will have broad appeal to both researchers and clinicians.
Research on Secure Key Establishment has become very active within the last few years. Secure Key Establishment discusses the problems encountered in this field. This book also introduces several improved protocols with new proofs of security. Secure Key Establishment identifies several variants of the key sharing requirement. Several variants of the widely accepted Bellare and Rogaway (1993) model are covered. A comparative study of the relative strengths of security notions between these variants of the Bellare–Rogaway model and the Canetti–Krawczyk model is included. An integrative framework is proposed that allows protocols to be analyzed in a modified version of the Bellare–Rogaway model using the automated model checker tool. Secure Key Establishment is designed for advanced level students in computer science and mathematics, as a secondary text or reference book. This book is also suitable for practitioners and researchers working for defense agencies or security companies.
