The arts have a crucial role in empowering young people with special needs through diverse dance initiatives. Inclusive pedagogy that integrates all students in rich, equitable and just dance programmes within education frameworks is occurring alongside enabling projects by community groups and in the professional dance world where many high-profile choreographers actively seek opportunities to work across diversity to inspire creativity. Access and inclusion is increasingly the essence of projects for disenfranchised and traumatised youth who find creative expression, freedom and hope through dance. This volume foregrounds dance for young people with special needs and presents best practice...
This book explains and critically examines how arts managers from more than 40 countries across the world respond to the various phenomena of globalisation, digitalisation and migration. It also analyses the manner in which cultural institutions become more international in nature. Real-life case studies and experiences from numerous practitioners as well as an international comparison of those specific challenges and opportunities illuminate how practicing in international and transcultural contexts is now inevitable. This book presents the basic concepts, theories and terminology required for this kind of work in addition to providing an overview of the daily tasks and challenges involved. It will be of interest to practicing and aspiring arts managers who wish to develop a further understanding of the complex way in which the field is developing.
The Seoul Agenda: Goals for the Development of Arts Education was unanimously endorsed by all UNESCO Member States in 2011. It is the only existent policy paper of global relevance on arts education. It provided the frame of reference for an international inquiry into arts education experts' perceptions of key issues in the field: access and participation, quality, and the benefits of arts education. Nearly 400 experts from 61 countries around the world participated in this research. The book presents findings, commentaries, and reflections contributed by 51 international scholars and expert practitioners.
Like every pedagogical field, the fields of aesthetics, arts and cultural education have been confronted with various transformational dynamics in recent decades. Transformation processes such as globalization, digitization or transculturalization not only characterize a change in social and cultural framework conditions, but also lead to changes in self-understanding, working methods, contents, and objectives in the research of these educational fields. The anthology "Spectra of Transformation" gathers a variety of perspectives on the question of the research on aesthetics, artistic and cultural education, which were discussed by international participants and speakers at the Winter School 2017 in Nuremberg.
This book fills a gap in the literature on how the UNESCO Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions positions itself within the bigger field of public international law. Several studies have been undertaken regarding the relationship of this Convention with the trade regime. However, the drafting process of the Convention brought more than just trade issues to the forefront. It highlighted heritage law, human rights law, or development law issues as well. The book investigates to what extent the Convention has an impact on these various fields of law and thus clarifies the Convention's contribution to the fragmentation of public international law. (Series: International Law - Vol. 9)
In recent years an increasing number of scholars have incorporated a focus on emotions in their theories of material culture, transnationalism and globalization, and this book aims to contribute to this field of inquiry. It examines how ‘emotions’ can be theorized, and serves as a useful analytical tool for understanding the interrelated mobility of humans, objects and images. Ethnographically rich, and theoretically grounded case studies offer new perspectives on the relations between migration, material culture and emotions. While some chapters address the many different ways in which migrants and migrant artists express their emotions through objects and images in transnational contexts, other chapters focus on how particular works of art, everyday objects and artefacts can evoke feelings specific to particular migrant groups and communities. Case studies also analyse how artists, academics and policy makers can stimulate positive interaction between migrants and non-migrant communities.
