John William Thompson (1827-1892), son of William Thompson, was born in Gortatogher, Ardagh, County Mayo, Ireland. He married Honora Hannah Crofton (1827-1897) in 1851. They emigrated in 1852 and settled in Alexis, Illinois. Their grandson, Thomas Burns Thompson (1902-1949) married Mary Agnes Purcell, daughter of Martin Purcell and Agnes Farren. Their daughter, Dorothy Purcell, married Bernard VonderHaar, son of John VonderHaar and Mary Schutte. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ireland, Germany, Illinois, Iowa and Kentucky.
