In this study, the author takes the Nigerian situation for offering new opportunities for developing a poverty alleviation strategy that aims at creating decent work opportunities in the informal economy. An important contribution to further development of the Catholic social ethics for Africa and at reducing poverty in a sustainable way.
Traditional marriage and Christian marriage rites presently exist as two distinct ceremonies in some parts of Africa. Is there no way of bringing the two together to avoid any form of duplication or multiplication of rite? More so because the Church has always implicitly recognised matrimonial institution as a cultural product. The answer to the above question is located in the whole issue of inculturation. A process that successfully flourished in the Western civilisation and consequently influenced the teaching of the Church on marriage. The answer to our question seeks to establish a marriage rite where couples will genuinely experience the happy marriage between culture and Church. A marriage rite that will fulfil both the traditional and Christian demands.
The Church of St Thomas Christians is the Apostolic Church founded through the apostolic ministry of St Thomas, the Apostle. Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church came into existence as a result of the colonial presence of the Europeans. Petrine ministry is the most important unresolved problem in the ecumenical dialogue.
Christ calls all his followers to unity. It is through this unity of the believers that the world will come to believe and accept that Jesus Christ comes from God the Father. This work is a survey of the historical attempts made in Eastern Africa to foster Christian unity especially from the Catholic point of view.
With Cameroon as a point of departure, the author examines the advantages and challenges that accrue from living in a multicultural African society, both for the society and for the Catholic Church, and offers refreshing reflections, suggestions and methods for facilitating interaction and functioning in a multicultural society.
In this study, the author analyses 1 Cor 4,1-5 within the larger context of 1 Corinthians 1-4. The study is an exegetico-theological analysis of two important metaphorical predicates that Paul uses for Apollos and himself to describe their role among the Corinthians: assistants of Christ and administrators of God_s mysteries (1 Cor 4,1). Focussing on pragmatic considerations, the author answers the following questions: Was Paul individualistic in his understanding of the role of the preachers in Corinth? Did he deny the role of other preachers such as Apollos in the Christian community of Corinth? What was his understanding of his own role? What are the characteristics of the proclamation of the gospel and of the preachers?
This book endeavours to set forth the Catholic Church understanding of Church-State relations and therein proposes a framework of Church-State relations in Zambia, to regulate areas of common interests between the Church and the State, and to specify areas of Church concern where State intrusion is limited. The work further proposes an institution to implement the framework proposal as well as monitor legislation and policies that impact on Church-State relations.
This work treats of the Phenomenology of Mary and the Church as persons of faith in relation to the Wojtilian phenomenology of the human being as an acting person. Christ is the centre of this relationship and this goes on to highlight ecumenism and also the place of the laity and women in the life of the Church.
