It is with great pleasure that we present the proceedings of the 6th Inter- tional, Symposium on Visual Computing (ISVC 2010), which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. ISVC provides a common umbrella for the four main areas of visual computing including vision, graphics, visualization, and virtual reality. The goal is to provide a forum for researchers, scientists, engineers, and pr- titioners throughout the world to present their latest research ?ndings, ideas, developments, and applications in the broader area of visual computing. This year, the program consisted of 14 oral sessions, one poster session, 7 special tracks, and 6 keynote presentations. The response to the call for papers was very good; we received over 300 submissions for the main symposium from which we accepted 93 papers for oral presentation and 73 papers for poster p- sentation. Special track papers were solicited separately through the Organizing and Program Committees of each track. A total of 44 papers were accepted for oral presentation and 6 papers for poster presentation in the special tracks.

Academic English for Computer Science

Academic English for Computer Science aims to provide a tool for the effective study of computational science and technology. It addresses international students who use English as a second language. It can be used as a foundation course in undergraduate programs of computer science, computer engineering, and information technology. The material of this course draws content from core areas of computer science, aspiring to create an initial induction in the field. Furthermore, the academic skills incorporated in each content unit will enhance the students' ability to: - Read and interpret a wide variety of texts and genres relevant to computing. - Acquire a solid base of domain-specific terminology. - Practice various note-taking methods, to improve their overall academic experience and personal growth process. - Write argumentation essays to illustrate similar and opposing views. - Cite known researchers and acknowledge contributions from peers in the field. - Communicate with other practitioners in a way that shows respect for diverse perspectives. - Deliver their own message in a genuine and powerful way.

The effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and aging infrastructure challenge water policymakers to confront a radical paradigm shift in water resources utilization. Recent advances in sensing, networking, processing, and control have provided the means for sustainable solutions in water management, and their implementation in water infrastructures is collectively referred to as "smart water grids." Smart water grids depend upon cyber-physical system principles to effectively respond to issues regarding the scalability and reliability of dynamic and inaccessible environments. As such, unique smart water grid issues associated with front-end signal processing, communication, control, ...
