The Banbury Cross Series was a collection of 12 volumes of books edited by Grace Rhys and published in London by Dent in the 1890s. Each book is attractively illustrated with full page and partial page pen and ink drawings in a classic Art Nouveau style by leading artists of the era. Here the Eastern classic Ali Baba is reworked and presented with H. Granville Fell's stunning black and white illustrations that beautifully complement the oriental traditions of the tale. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality editions, using the original text and artwork so these works can delight another generation of children.
Three fantastic, fun-filled, dynamic and dramatic stories, to follow on from the story of Jason and the Argonauts and Ali Baba, published in February. These are tales that every aspiring boy-adventurer will want to read, from Robin outwitting the evil sheriff and William Tell's astounding shot that pierced an apple at one hundred yards, to Aladdin's discovery of his very own magic lamp complete with genie. Illustrated throughout with Tony Ross's energetic, bold and brilliant line drawings.
This graphic novel tells the story from the 'Arabian Nights'.
